Drum Lesson by appointment at your location / event or in a studio Also available for studio and live sessions / collaborations. I have been teaching drums professionally for the past 15 years. During this time I have accrued lots of experience and taught pupils ranging from ages 6 upwards. I have developed my own unique teaching methods which have allowed my pupils to develop control, coordination, technique and creative freedom quickly.
Ben Martin
"Ben Martin is an excellent teacher and an AMAZING drummer, my son took lessons from Ben for 3 years and we found him to be patient, talented, professional and all round lovely guy, I cannot recommend him highly enough, so if you are looking to learn drumming Ben is the man!"

Everyone is different and every student has a different way of learning. It is therefore important to put the student first when considering the best curriculum. I tailor my lessons to each individual, depending on age, experience, learning style and what each student would like to achieve from drum lessons. I can work from graded syllabuses such as Rockschool or Guildhall Trinity however it is by no means essential.
Sammy Atkinson
I began drumming lessons with Emlyn back in November 2020 as a complete beginner. I had a target, to learn to play a particular song, to play it at my wedding on 05/11/2021. I really didn’t know what to expect or if this was at all achievable, but thought it was worth a go! I started off with 30 minute lessons, weekly, with a practice pad and some sticks at home. I then got myself a second hand electric kit, to get the practice in, in between lessons. We were then interrupted due to lockdown but Emlyn was really supportive and encouraging. He assured me I could achieve my goal, so we kept at it when we were able to. He was really patient with me on off weeks and really encouraging when we noticed improvements etc. We decided to increase my weekly lessons to 45 minutes and I got an old acoustic kit, to help me prepare since we were edging closer and closer to my wedding! Emlyn gave me a massive pep talk and we had a chat about nerves and how to manage them when I was with the band and my guests now knew I was about to play for them. He was right, nothing quite prepares you, but what a feeling! I played 2 songs with the band. Albeit, with several hiccups, but I did it! All thanks to Emlyn’s help, practice and self-belief! Now the obsession with learning one song is over with, I am really looking forward to getting back to my lessons and really working on my technique. Emlyn is a great teacher and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering taking up drums.

My son has been part of the Village Music school for over a year, he has lessons on the guitar ever Saturday and also attends the Rock Club on a Wednesday. He has also performed in concerts which gives all the people involved confidence, the music teachers and staff are some of the nicest people I have met.
