What do you love most about your job?

Getting to see the improvements dogs and their family can make in such a short space of time.

What inspired you to start your own business?

If I'm honest my love for animals and dogs comes from my years growing up at home. From the moment I was bought home from hospital I was surrounded by dogs, we always had at least 4 dogs running around. My mum was a dog trainer and also breed dogs. I'd regularly attend the dog training sessions that my mum led and I'd partake training our own dogs. My mum was a member of a obedience group who demonstrated at cruft's to show that any dog can be trained to a great level of obedience to challenge the normal breeds associated with it i.e. border collies

Over the last 30 years I have trained my own dogs and regularly get asked for help/support with friends dog training needs but why did I decide to build this business. We were lucky that our cockapoo Jura had a gorgeous litter of puppies this summer as part of this I got their new forever homes involved with their development before they were ready to leave to go to their new homes. Whilst the puppies with us for those short 8 weeks we started to build the puppies confidence and development, We applied the same principles we use for training a dog anything new so used a layered approach to introduce them to things like washing machine, hoover, as soon as they were able to we started to get them going out to the garden to start toilet training etc, but we didn't forget the new dog owners as part of this and as dog training is much more about training the owner than the dog itself and as part of this I got the new owners thinking about things from a dog point of view to consider things such as puppy proving their garden, thinking about what they would like to feed their new puppy, regular visits to come and start bonding with their puppy.

The day the puppies left us one of the new owners who had been involved from the moment Jura was confirmed to be pregnant praised me about just how well adjusted the puppies were and how I should be working with dogs as it was what I was meant to be doing.

I'm currently working towards becoming an accredited member of the IMDT (institute of modern dog trainers) who set high professional standards for pet education and care. The require their members to complete a rigorous programme of training, assessment and continuous professional development.
