I offer individual and couples Psychotherapy and Counselling. I also offer Mental Health and Risk Assessments and referral to Specialist Services if required. I am trained in Psychotherapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy Skills as well as Mental Health Nursing. I have many years experience of working with Trauma and Abuse , Adjustment and Post Traumatic Stress. I also have a special interest in Anxiety and Depression and those experiencing suicidal thoughts and self harming behaviours. Following an initial assessment we can discuss your needs and expectations of therapy and whether you require short term or long term therapy. We will work together in one hour sessions to identify specific and troubling patterns of behaviours and feelings that you may be finding difficult to manage or cope with. Some of these behaviours may include addictions and or self harming behaviours including eating disorders and risk taking behaviours. We will explore the impact that this is having on your relationship with self and also with others. I am passionate about my work and if you would like to know more then please contact me via email or my website. I offer face to face sessions, telephone and Skype sessions. Thankyou for taking the time to read my profile. With best wishes, Louise

What do you love most about your job?

I love working with people and helping them to find there way through difficult times in their lives. I am passionate about the work I do and have done for the past 40 years. I find this work so humbling and so rewarding. I have been so privileged to sit with others and for them to allow me to listen to their thoughts , acknowledge their feelings during the most vulnerable times in their lives.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was offered a new post in the NHS as a Supervisory Clinician doing Mental Health assessments having been employed as a Psychotherapist previously. I wanted to continue my work as a. Therapist and decided to start my own business so that I could continue to do the work that I love and to continue to utilise my experience and skills. I now work 2 days a week for the NHS and offer private therapy on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am a very experienced Psychotherapist and a qualified Mental Health Nurse with over 35 years experience working in the NHS and British Armed Forces. My work is my passion and I have worked with people from many different backgrounds and in a variety of settings including prison, special hospital (Broadmoor) , hospice, GP practices, NSPCC and the community. I am very empathic, non judgemental and believe that we are all capable of change for the better. Above all I am a people person.

Counselling FAQs

Your expert Counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.

At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained Counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The Counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.

Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:

  • Face to face session

  • Group session

  • Phone session

  • Email session

  • Online through live chat services or video conferencing software

You may be offered a single session of Counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.

It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your Counsellor.

You can be confident that any of the Bark local Counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.

You could look for Counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.

Before you choose a Counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.

You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.

Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:

  • Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.

  • Physical health conditions such as infertility.

  • Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.

  • Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.

  • Sexual identity issues.

  • Divorce.

  • Redundancy and work issues.

  • Phobias and fears.

Absolutely! Many Counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
