FAQs

How much does a car mechanic charge in the UK?

According to data collected by Bark, basic car servicing in the UK typically starts from around £60 to £120, depending on vehicle type and location. Hourly labour rates often range between £50 and £100, while larger repairs such as clutch or gearbox replacements can cost several hundred pounds or more depending on parts and labour. Requesting mechanic quotes UK professionals provide will help you compare pricing clearly.

What’s the difference between a garage and a mobile mechanic?

A traditional garage provides on-site servicing and repairs at a fixed location, while a mobile mechanic comes to your home or workplace for convenience. Some mobile mechanics can handle many common repairs and servicing tasks without needing a trip to a garage.

How often should I have my car serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend a service every 12 months or 10,000–12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Regular servicing helps maintain performance, safety and resale value.

What do you love most about your job?

As a family run business we get a range of customers coming to us for various issues with their vehicles. Whenever we can, we love to help and especially enjoy seeing returning customers who have seen the garage change and improve over the years.

What inspired you to start your own business?

In the early 1930's we started out as a coal delivery business founded and successfully run by Charles Henry Bayliss. Since then the business changed and in the 1960's was established as C. H. Bayliss (Garages) Ltd. by Charles Bayliss Junior who was soon joined by his younger brother, John Bayliss. It has been renamed Bayliss Garages Ltd and has grown and expanded since then. Peter Bayliss (Johns son) is now the Managing Director of the business, which has aimed to keep it up to date with the times, as well as remain a reliable garage in Smethwick and the surrounding areas.

Why should our clients choose you?

Bayliss Garages Ltd, is a third generation, family run business offering a dependable, affordable service with qualified and experienced technicians. I am super happy with the service! Great communication, excellent job! Marcell was quick to fix the issue and explained what is the next thing that needs to be done on my car. And he was right. He definitely knows what he is doing. I will definitely call them again when I need help with my car. (AUDI A3)
