How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
It is reasonable to say that most structures could be adapted in order to be deemed as "suitable for construction" however some local authorities have strict rules on what is classed as permitted development, in some cases a certificate of lawfulness is advised to avoid problems at a later date.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
* Establish if you have permitted development rights in tact at your property
* Basic plans required to be drawn up in order to discuss budget numbers with SJW
* Submission to local authority; if required may take 8-10 weeks
* Instruct structural engineer if required based on the complexity of the project
* Instruct local Building inspector to ensure works are carried out safely and to local building regulations. A seven day notice period before structural works commence is required by law
* SJW to carry out works as set out in our method statement and in line with our approved drawings and scope of works
* Typical on site time is 4-6 weeks subject to size and design and scope of works
* Handover to client for sign off
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Prior approval or permitted development or full planning must be established before works commence. Before instructing an architect engage with the local authority to establish what is feasible.
