Hi Alan, thanks for your kind remarks. I will pass it on to the team.
How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
It depends on the structure and existing roof height. Building regulations required a level of insulation be installed to the floor, walls and roof that may lower the available ceiling height inside the garage. Sometimes this is not an issue, others it leaves too little height to be useable without raising the roof. Like most things in the building business, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it. However, clients need to be aware of the costs and benefits before embarking on a garage conversion.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
1. Discussion of ideas with the client and formalisation of plans. Sign contracts with detailed specification and costs.
2. Notification to building control of start of works and initial work to reconfigure the garage as required. Brickwork and first fix timber work.
3. First fix electrics, plumbing and insulation. Fitting of new windows and doors.
4. Plasterboarding, skim plastering and tiling.
5. Second fix electrics and plumbing including fitting kitchen and bathroom.
6. Second fix carpentry. P&D and fitting of final floor coverings.
7. Removal of all waste from site. Snagging and hand over to client with all documentation, certificates and guarantees.
How long have you been in business?
26 years as general builders including 4 years as specialist insulation fitters.
What guarantee does your work come with?
It depends on the work. General building works come with a 12 month guarantee but external wall insulation has a 25 year guarantee. We will discuss this during the initial design stage for confirmation of what is offered.
What do you love most about your job?
It is different every week. On any one day we could be fitting a new kitchen, installing loft insulation or laying a patio. We have completed over 120 full house renovations over the years and have specialised more in retrofit insulation recently. I especially like being able to install a range of insulation that will save our clients substantial sums of money on their fuel bills. This is increasingly important with the way fuel costs have risen recently and the critical need to reduce the carbon output from our homes.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I got into property development on leaving the army in 1993. Initially I used contractors to do most of the work but quickly got tired of dealing with unreliable builders who did a poor quality job. As a result of this I went on various training courses so I could do it myself. As the development business grew I employed 1 or 2 people to help and eventually formed a building company to run projects for other clients.
Why should our clients choose you?
We are fairly unique in that all my staff are full time employed by me, some being with me for over 15 years. We are a small multi-skilled team and can do most things in house. I recently bought a large warehouse in central Birkenhead and we can buy materials in bulk to help keep costs down for our clients. As a locally based company we rely on our good name to keep the business coming in and will do what we have to to deliver exceptional customer service.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We can discuss project outlines online but need to complete a site visit to accurately assess what can be done and the likely costs.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We did have detailed protocols in place during the covid period but have now returned to normal working practices. We are very happy to wear masks in clients houses if requested.
