General Builders
DTS undertook the refurbishment of the steps from the front garden path to our front door.
They arrived at the agreed time, undertook the work in a very professional way and within the time they indicated.
At the end of the day and on completing the work, they always left the site clean and tidy.
I will definitely contact them if I have a need for additional work to be done.

David Iddon (DTS Property) is a lovely guy.
He responded to my Nextdoor appeal for builders very promptly. He came to look at the job, took measurements and pictures, and discussed the best way forward.
The job involved both his own skills as well as some electrical work - for which he used one of his regular suppliers.
He gave us a competitive price which we accepted and within a few weeks, the electrician was on site. The following day, David returned and started work.
He works carefully and thoughtfully with a good eye for detail, getting the small details right to enhance the final job.
The finished job is spot on, just what we wanted and badly needed, and I would have no hestation in using him again and recommending him to everyone.
In fact, one of my neighbours was so impressed with his attitude, approach to work and the quality of finished product, he commissioned David to work on his property too!
'Nuff said!

We are delighted with the work Dave and his team carried out on our back garden. It looks better than we had imagined it. The three levels with the retaining walls and the flowers beds that border the edges work really well . Many positive comments from neighbours and visitors. We are very pleased with the whole job. An absolute transformation to the back of the house which has given us the perfect area for relaxing and entertaining. Couldn’t wish for better! More...

Dave did an excellent job plastering a large room in a 300 year old cottage. It had a vaulted ceiling which was 4 m high at one end. It required a scaffold tower and dealing with very uneven walls. The quality of finish was very good and the bill was very reasonable More...

DTS totally refurbished shower room in a rental property which is in a listed building. It was obvious that the original conversion had been done by 'cowboy' builders as the shower unit was supported solely by loose pieces of wood - hence it was moving and causing leakage.
Shower controls held on the wall purely by the wall tiles.
The whole floor had to be taken up and refitted taking out the shower, basin and toilet. Floor rebuilt and shower, toilet and basin reinstated. Walls re-tiled. Excellent job!
Can highly recommend

My downstairs cloakroom had exposed pipe work coming from the ceiling and going along the wall. I’d had a couple of tradesmen around who were not interested in the job. David was able to set the pipe work in the wall, box in the waste pipe to allow me to have a shelf and then install new flooring and basin. I’m so pleased with the finished result. The work was done in an efficient and tidy manner. I would recommend his work. More...

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
To determine if a garage is suitable for conversion, you would need to consider the following factors:
1. Planning Permission: Check with your local planning authority to determine if you need planning permission for the conversion. In some cases, permitted development rights may allow certain garage conversions without the need for planning permission. However, there may be restrictions and limitations, so it's essential to verify the specific requirements for your area.
2. Building Regulations: Regardless of whether planning permission is required, you will need to comply with building regulations. Building regulations cover various aspects such as structural stability, insulation, ventilation, fire safety, electrical installations, and plumbing. Consult with a building control officer or hire a professional to ensure that your garage conversion meets all the necessary regulations.
3. Parking Restrictions: Consider the impact of converting your garage on parking space availability. If parking is limited in your area, converting a garage may not be advisable, as it could result in parking difficulties or violation of local regulations.
4. Structural Assessment: Have a structural assessment of the garage conducted to ensure that it is suitable for conversion. A professional engineer or architect can evaluate the existing structure and determine if any modifications or reinforcements are necessary.
5. Utility Connections: Assess the availability of utility connections, including electricity, water, and drainage. Determine if additional connections or upgrades are required to support the conversion.
6. Insulation and Ventilation: Evaluate the existing insulation and ventilation in the garage. Garages are typically not designed for habitation, so you may need to improve insulation and ventilation to meet the required standards for a habitable space.
7. Natural Light and Windows: Consider the provision of natural light in the garage. Determine if windows or skylights can be installed to meet the minimum light and ventilation requirements.
It is crucial to engage professionals such as architects, builders, or planning consultants who are familiar with local regulations and requirements. They can guide you through the process, ensure compliance, and help you make informed decisions about converting your garage.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
The process of converting a garage typically involves several stages. Here is a general overview of the different stages involved in a garage conversion:
1. Planning and Design:
- Determine the purpose of the conversion: Decide how you want to use the converted space, whether it's a bedroom, office, gym, or an additional living area.
- Consult with an architect or designer: Work with a professional to create a design that meets your requirements and complies with building regulations.
- Obtain necessary permissions: Check if you need planning permission or if the project falls under permitted development rights. Apply for any required permissions from your local planning authority.
2. Structural Assessment:
- Hire a structural engineer: Have a structural engineer evaluate the existing garage structure to ensure it can support the planned conversion.
- Assess foundations and load-bearing walls: Determine if any modifications or reinforcements are needed to ensure structural stability.
3. Utility Connections:
- Evaluate existing utilities: Assess the availability and capacity of electricity, water, and drainage connections in the garage.
- Upgrade or install utility connections: If necessary, hire professionals to upgrade or install additional utility connections to support the conversion.
4. Insulation and Ventilation:
- Improve insulation: Garages typically lack adequate insulation for habitable spaces. Enhance insulation by adding insulation material to walls, floors, and ceilings.
- Ensure proper ventilation: Install suitable ventilation systems to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.
5. Flooring and Wall Finishes:
- Prepare the floor: Clean and level the garage floor. Depending on the desired finish, you may need to install a damp-proof membrane or insulation layer before adding the final flooring material.
- Install flooring: Choose appropriate flooring materials, such as laminate, carpet, or tiles, based on your preferences and the purpose of the converted space.
- Finish the walls: Apply plasterboard or drywall to cover the existing garage walls. Finish with plaster or paint to achieve the desired look.
6. Windows and Doors:
- Install windows: Determine the placement and size of windows to allow natural light and ventilation. Install double-glazed windows for energy efficiency.
- Replace or modify the garage door: Depending on the design, you may need to replace the garage door with a suitable entrance door or modify it to fit the intended use.
7. Electrical and Plumbing:
- Hire licensed professionals: Engage certified electricians and plumbers to handle the electrical and plumbing installations.
- Install electrical outlets and lighting: Determine the required number and location of electrical outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures. Ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Add plumbing fixtures: Install any necessary plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, or showers, if applicable to your intended use.
8. Finishing Touches:
- Paint and decorate: Choose paint colours and decorative finishes to create the desired ambiance in the converted space.
- Furnish and accessorize: Select furniture, fixtures, and accessories to make the space functional and aesthetically pleasing.
- Final inspections: Arrange for final inspections by building control officers to ensure compliance with building regulations.
Remember, the specific steps and requirements may vary depending on local regulations, the intended use of the space, and the complexity of the conversion. It's advisable to consult professionals and obtain appropriate permits throughout the process to ensure a successful garage conversion.
