Not all lofts are immediately ready for conversion, but most can be adapted with the right design and structural reinforcements. Here’s how to tell if your loft is a good candidate:
Head Height – Ideally, your loft should have at least 2.2m of height from floor to ceiling at its highest point. If it’s lower, structural modifications like a dormer extension may be needed.
Roof Type – Traditional pitched roofs with rafters are easier to convert than trussed roofs, which may require additional structural work.
Floor Space & Layout – The size and shape of your loft determine what kind of rooms can fit (e.g., bedroom, office, or bathroom).
Access & Staircase Feasibility – There needs to be enough room to install a safe and regulation-compliant staircase leading up to the loft.
