Q&As

Seeing people thrive in their life after therapy is very satisfying and makes my job the best job in the world.

I've always been self employed. I find it liberating that I can work in a way that isn't bound by others profit motives.

As an integrative Psychotherapist I'm very versatile in that I use a large range of approaches depending on the client individual needs. As a fully integrated approach this gives fast and effective results and often I use multiple techniques in one session or over time.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that addresses dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors and cognitive processes and contents through a number of goal-oriented, explicit systematic procedures. We at Positive Suggestion Therapy are working with patients dealing with stress, anxiety and depression (low mood) using cognitive behavioral therapy. This technique acknowledges that there may be behaviors that cannot be controlled through rational thoughts. CBT is problem focused and action oriented, where the therapist assisst the client in selecting specific strategies to help address the client's problems.

CBT is proven to be effective for the treatment of a variety of conditions, including low mood, anxiety, personality and eating disorders, substance abuse and psychotic disorders.

Hypnosis is an altered psychological state of mind with certain physiological attributes, similar to sleep, whilst the hypnotised individual is at a certain level of awareness other than the ordinary conscious state. Hypnosis is now being recognised as a very effective tool for modifying behaviour and is also used for healing as a complementary therapy. One of the many positive attributes of hypnotherapy is that its long lasting results are immediate. Hypnotherapy is practised in a fully confidential environment to be safe and ethical and it is a wonderful experience for everyone.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is anxiety that results from previous trauma such as military combat, rape, hostage situations, or a serious accident. PTSD often leads to flashbacks and behavioural changes in order to avoid certain activity. I dedicated my career to help people with post traumatic stress disorder and to overcome past traumatic events. I use a number of different, extremely effective psycho-therapeutic techniques to help people overcome their traumatic memories that have a negative, often crippling effect on their current, day to day lives. The results are outstanding, often immediate and lasting

Stress and anxiety management at Positive suggestion therapy is an every day visited subject. Stress in humans results from interactions between individuals and their environment that are perceived as straining or exceeding their adaptive capacities and threatening their well-being. Risk factors for stress-related illnesses are a mixture of personal, interpersonal, and social variables. These factors include lack or loss of control over and individual’s physical environment, and lack or loss of social support networks.

Anxiety is essentially a learned and defensive response; the feeling of fear and concern, worry and uneasiness. Fear implies a response to some immediate and often visible threat (a poisonous snake) whereas anxiety refers to the anticipation of some event in the future which is perhaps less clearly defined (for example, the possibility of losing a job for missing a deadline). The symptoms of anxiety include tense muscles, trembling, headaches, poor concentration, diarrhoea, nausea, muscle spasms, poor digestions, numbness, sweating, flushing. People all become anxious from time to time. However, anxiety becomes a problem, when it interferes with an individual’s life in the absence of real threat or goes on too long after the danger has past.

At Positive Suggestion Therapy every client receives a personalised stress reduction induction to fit each individual’s needs. These needs are determined by identifying the client’s stress stimuli and additional responses. The client’s most affected areas are assessed, prioritised and implemented in SMART planning using a specifically designed treatment plan. Depending on the severity of the presented stress or anxiety, clients with stress issues can be treated in 3-10 sessions.

Self-esteem is the “respect for or a favorable opinion of oneself”. In psychotherapy terms, self-esteem is described as “confidence in one’s own worth and abilities”. Individuals suffering from low self-esteem will have almost all areas of their lives affected. Low self-esteem is the resulting symptom of a long and slow process occurring. The major cause of low self-esteem is negative programming imbedded in the past often by judgemental parents regularly using one-dimensional generalisations, emphasising and labelling negativity. One-dimensional generalisation is the act of only recognising wrong doing and never to praise when something is done well. Fear of failure is an immobilizing emotional condition. It brings a person’s life to a halt due to the fear of not being able to achieve anything. This condition is also a direct product of past negative programming, which is often the case is not being worthy.

Lack of confidence or low self-esteem can be treated in 4-8 sessions depending on the individual and their presenting issue.

Family Constellations, also known as Systemic Constellations and Systemic Family Constellations, is an alternative therapeutic method which draws on elements of family systems therapy and existential phenomenology to family. In a single session, a Family Constellation reveals a previously unrecognised dynamic that spans multiple generations in a given family and to resolve the deleterious effects of that dynamic by encouraging the subject to encounter representatives of the past and accept the factual reality of the past.

A Phobia is an irrational fear and avoidance of an object or situation. Phobias are different from generalised anxiety disorders because a phobia has a fear response identified with a specific cause. The fear may be acknowledged as irrational or unnecessary, but the person is still unable to control the anxiety that results. Stimuli for phobia may be as varied as situations, animals, or everyday objects. Clients suffering from fears and phobias are often easily treated in just one session.
