Kerry and Jason are the loveliest small farm holding folk I know. The hard work and dedication they have applied to their business is just astounding. 13 years ago when I first brought chickens from them they were just building their small business up and the work they have put in is astonishing. Always helpful, always willing and have become wonderful friends too. If ever you need information about keeping chickens these are you guys, even run courses. More...

I recently went on the Introduction to Chicken Keeping Course which Jason kindly combined with the handling course. Although it's a two hour trip from London, the course is excellent. The owners are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and fun. For anyone thinking about getting some chickens, the course is a must. To also see how beautifully kept everything is and see the equipment needed at close quarters rather than on a web-site is great. The course is exceptional value. Thanks again, More...

Fantastic people who DO know their stuff.
We have 5 ducks and four hens and they have been 'guests' at Mantel Farm since 2012 every time we have a holiday.
We have their wings clipped and advise is always reliable and backed up with experience.
Jason and Kerry clearly love their job and care for our very much loved pets as they would their own.
I have no hesitation in recommending them. Our boys and girls are always happy on drop off and pick up - and we'd know if they weren't!
The pens are scrupulously clean and can't be faulted.
100% recommend

(I ask a lot if questions!) We board our ladies there too when we go away and know they are well taken care of.
Its worth the drive from TWells for me as its one stop shopping and the kids love to check out all the chooks, roosters and other animals too!

About our service:
"CHICKEN TRIPPERS" Poultry Boarding Since 2007
Mantel Farm's chicken boarding service was first established in 2007, we consider ourselves to have been the first to offer this service in the UK.
Bringing your birds to board with us means leaving your well loved family pets, or smallholding flock in the capable hands of those who know about poultry.
We have a dedicated area in our barn for Chicken Trippers, with various sized pens to suit your requirements.
Your chickens will be housed together in their own adequately sized pen, which is totally secure from predators, being located within the walls of our main poultry barn.
Being indoors, our pens are built on a solid concrete floor therefore enabling cleaning and disinfecting much more thorough than if they were kept on grass.
After cleaning, each pen is given a new floor of soft wood shavings providing a deep litter for your hens to enjoy.
Each pen contains its own feeder, drinker, grit hopper, nesting boxes and a roosting rail as standard. Optional extras are available on request and we can cater for specific treat or food requirements but extra cost may be involved.
Any eggs laid by your hens will be collected daily for you to take home when you collect your birds.
Layers pellets or mash will be provided along with a treat feed of corn in the afternoon. (unless you request otherwise)
If you would like to bring along extra treats for your birds, or if they require any special care, please complete the relevant section on our booking form.
Beekeeping Training Courses
We will always encourage others to be as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and this includes keeping livestock where possible. Our Beekeeping courses and Chicken Keeping courses, among others, are here to help. However when keeping livestock you become responsible for their welfare and it is essential that you are confident to give them the care and attention they deserve. We do not consider ourselves to be experts in all animal care but we are happy to talk to you and share our experiences, giving advice where possible.
Please see below for details of training held by ourselves and other recommended training providers.
We also attend several shows and fayres throughout the year. Our diary will be updated throughout the year with our upcoming events.
