What makes a great website?

Look and feel is important but so is the user experience. The site has to work easily for a user - too often we see sites that look nice but do not work well for a user. Clear navigation and mobile-friendly design can help. Keep the number of colours to a minimum and always have SSL.
Always think of the user and don't think the work is done as soon as the site is live! A good agency will run optimisation software to understand how users are interacting with it. No good having a pretty website that doesn't convert! Run tests on variations of the site to see which version works best.
Additionally, our advice would be to pay for decent hosting, perhaps with WP-Engine, Cloudways, Digital Ocean etc. Install Google Analytics, Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Understand how people search your site, what they do when on your site and where any bottlenecks lie.
Finally, always consider Google/Bing. Will they be able to crawl the site properly? Is the architecture right for SEO? We have seen a lot of sites that look great but perform badly in the search engines.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

This really depends on the scope of the request. Generally we try to find out
- What has gone before
- What has or hasn't worked
- Budgets
- Aims and objectives
- Set expectations
We run audits on potential client's PPC/SEO/Social/Content to understand the gaps, technical issues and the potential. We are thorough and this takes time so we need to see as much data as possible including:
- Google Analytics
- Search Console + Bing Webmaster Tools access if possible
- All social media accounts
We then pull all this information together, review your objectives and budgets and tell you what is possible. We are always completely transparent and if we tell clients what is achievable.

What do you love most about your job?

The sheer variety of clients! We have dealt with all sorts of verticals from travel, betting, IVF, skincare, health and beauty, DIY tools, the list goes on!
There is always a lot going on in digital marketing and it is an ever-changing environment which keeps us on our toes. Executing social media campaigns and seeing an audience grow is very motivating, as is seeing an increase in SEO traffic and conversions coming through PPC.
One of our clients was so successful through our PPC management that they had to pause it as they couldn't keep up with the enquiries! This is what gets us out of bed every morning!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I'm an explorer, so I think of new things all the time and this creativity needed a channel. I found digital marketing to be a perfect fit - many different clients, many different ways of creating new things.
Olivia started with Gloop as she was excited to combine her social media prowess with SEO and PPC experts (Sean, our Head of SEO and myself). It's a perfect mix and covering everything gives us full oversight into growing your brand.

Kinderwunsch-Tage is a multi-lingual event based in Germany serving the IVF vertical. The owning company, F2F Events Germany, wanted a new site that they could fully control, with a checkout process using multiple providers. Additionally, the client recognised that social media activity was crucial for enabling organic, higher ranking in search engine results, so an Instagram gallery was curated. The existing Facebook page was injected with posts featured on Instagram, producing a coordinated, uniformed presence. This work included: Outreached to ‘mom-bloggers,’ who fall within the target demographic parameters Identified relevant demographic on Instagram through hashtag research Engaged with target demographic on Instagram to put client on its radar Sourced relatable articles/stories with an emphasis on people, not product; showing, not telling Emotive, inspirational and informative copywriting for captions and post content that was then translated We marketed the site via a number of methods: Set up Instagram – a channel which is working incredibly well Utilised hashtagging tactics to grow awareness Facebook marketing using new and previously built audiences Google Display Network PPC in multiple languages Outreached to bloggers, influencers Using these tactics, we were able to increase visits over 40% compared to the previous year and the site is continuing to grow. Conversions are also up compared to last year. This was one of the most challenging clients due to the unique and sensitive nature of the market and the additional complexity of managing multi-lingual campaigns. They also wanted this site to be marketed to both English and German speakers in Germany including groups such as the LGBT community. We built the site on WordPress, utilising Woocommerce, WPML and installed Paypal, Cash on Delivery (due to the uniqueness of the German market) and Stripe. We set up Google Tag Manager to cover off multiple areas including: Facebook Adwords Conversion optimisation pixels The site also is utilising a content delivery network solution to speed up delivery of website assets.

Belle France

Belle France needed some help on their Adwords management. Previously managed by a large national agency, the account was lacking in direction and scope. We totally over-hauled the account with the following; Built a new account structure which was internationally scalable Reduced the number of irrelevant terms by intense and ongoing negative keyword generation Built specific audiences for display and RLSA retargeting Developed ad-copy that exhibited extremely high CTR even on 1st impression non-brand Reduced CPA by over 40% Built a Bing account – the previous agency completely ignored this area. This drove incredibly cost-effective conversions Increased the number of leads to the point where we had to pause for 6 weeks to allow the team to catch up and recruit more staff! We also: Provided ongoing comprehensive competitor analysis Developed the Google Analytics integration to give greater detail Researched offline opportunities, working with Waitrose on audience segmentation and an exceptional brand advert Data analysis across sectors of the business such as holiday uptake, forward booking position, call tracking data and more Worked with the in-house team to improve conversion rates Worked on landing-page campaigns for ebook promotions Ran successful Facebook campaigns Work in close operation with other agencies Provided SEO analysis Provided reporting
