‘21 Certificate of Excellence

I teach piano, keyboard and music theory. Exams (ABRSM TCM LCM) are optional; some pupils need exams to get motivated - it's a fact.... I refresh my teaching repertoire regularly, which keeps myself from getting stale! I'm constantly adding to my repertoire through purchasing new books as required by the exam boards as well as encountering new pieces as requested by pupils.

What do you love most about your job?

1) Seeing pupils progress. 2) Seeing a growth in their love and appreciation of music. 3) Seeing pupils achieve good exam results. 3) The interaction between pupil and myself.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I love teaching and I love music of many genres. So, both combined makes sense! I think that I have derived a lot of satisfaction from being my own boss and consequently building up things myself, eg my website and YouTube channel. Teaching is not for everyone: I've known some who tried to teach and found it boring/frustrating/unfulfilling etc. However, I seem to have a gift for communicating concepts, helping pupils through hurdles in pieces and generally encouraging them to hang in there. I am well aware that learning piano does not come easily for the majority of people.

Why should our clients choose you?

I really try to be flexible regarding choice of music worked on: however even I have limits! (I think every piano teacher does). Some styles just don't work: Rap and hip hop etc just dont work on solo piano. I have 30+ years experience and have entered many pupils for exams of ABRSM, LCM Trinity etc.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I honestly prefer face-to-face: it is simply an easier way to teach. However online makes sense fo many families - most obviously due to covid. I use facetime, but I prefer Skype.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Not letting them in the building! Since March 2020 I have exclusively taught online. I have no idea when I will be able to return to 'normal' teaching but hopefully soon.
