About Me and Musical Background: I am a singer-songwriter, musician and performer from North-East London. I have over 12 years of performance experience as a solo performer, as well as in choirs and bands. I have over 10 years experience of performing a mixture of musical styles; classical, pop, rock, jazz, hymnal, musical theatre, acappella. My main instruments are voice and piano, which I am classically trained in and completed the Associated Board of Royal School of Music examinations. I graduated from King's College London with a first class honours in my Music Bachelor Degree in 2019. My Teaching Experience: I have over 5 years of 1-2-1 private teaching experience and have worked in schools with children, teaching them keyboard, drums, guitar, singing and keyboard and teaching them skills of working together in bands. As well as teaching, I am a full-time musician, performing regularly at functions, events and as a songwriter at live music events in Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and London. New Services: As a brand new service, I am offering a bespoke songwriting service to clients. This will be tailored to the clients needs and wishes. A service that can turn stories, anecdotes, personal ditties, tributes to family members, friends, loved ones and customise them into a piece of art and music for perhaps a special occasion; a birthday, an anniversary, the birth of a grandchild, a proposal song, to celebrate someone's life - anything you wish! Details can be discussed one-to-one with clients to ensure that the song (music, lyrics and/or both) combines to create a single work that really represents personal events and emotions.

What do you love most about your job?

From my experience, there is nothing better than seeing a student enjoy the learning process and actively ask to expand their learning. I love seeing students make progress, and this can vary in different ways depending on the student. Regardless of the amount or type of progress, progress is still progress, and to be actively and regularly contributing to this over a period of time is very rewarding as a tutor. I like when students get excited to learn, have lots of questions, and get to a point in their learning where making mistakes and correcting them (themselves) becomes a productive process. It challenges me, as a teacher, when students ask for further explanation on any concepts or techniques, and it improves the quality of my delivery, in teaching across different age groups and abilities. I have really found the transition to online tuition a fantastic way of teaching and learning and have found that students have really clicked well with this.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Having gone through the process myself as a student, studying music further at Bachelor level and teaching in schools, I decided to go self-employed to set my own routine and take on students that I felt could sync well with my teaching style, and offer my services to not just one population of people. It has encouraged me to be self-dependent, but also ask questions myself to people around me in this industry, who have acted as my mentors and teachers, and can share experience and advice too. I have always had the motivation to take control of my career, and as a musician this is essential in an industry that is fast-moving, requires a lot of groundwork and effort and energy from the individual wishing to pursue the career seriously.

Why should our clients choose you?

As a tutor:
I believe that confidence in a tutor is really the driving force behind any student's practice and devotion to a subject. I try my best to make students feel relaxed in lessons, comfortable to ask for clarity if something is slightly difficult, and have a very transparent relationship generally. I am patient, and have become very responsive towards adapting lessons to suit individuals; I can diagnose quite quickly what is working for a student and what is not, and make appropriate changes to the lesson, so that the student feels they have come away from every lesson having GAINED skill/insight/confidence.

As a musician/performer:
Despite having the qualifications, I love playing and performing music to audiences. My mantra as a performer is 'if I am performing for someone/people/ for 5 minutes (or 5 hours), I want to feel that I have contributed to their day/week/experience in a positive and enjoyable way'. I mainly self-accompany (on keys/guitar), and really get a lot from audiences when I perform. Making a good relationship with audiences as soon as you present yourself on stage is crucial.

As a songwriter:
My influences come from the pop and folk classic songwriters; Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Carly Simon. I grew up listening to 50s rock and roll, 80s disco and pop, and contemporary chart hits. My musical knowledge and interests are extremely diverse and mixed. I am songwriting all the time as part of my own career and profile building for labels in the industry, writing song briefs for artists with Warner Music.
I have written songs for and with people and enjoy putting lyrics and music together to produce something that can leave people in tears, have them laughing in delight and/or living every bit of the song and connecting with it emotionally.
