*On maternity leave from May 2023* I am a professional Dog Walker and Pet Sitter, fully insured and DBS clear with a full and clean driving license. I operate in potton and the surrounding areas. My walks include training and activities designed to mentally and physically challenge your dog, but safely. I have experience with reactive dogs, puppies, elderly and disabled dogs and big/small breeds. I use my own, high quality training treats however, it is very important that you let me know if your pet has any allergies, so I can ensure that this is catered for, witin reason. If you would prefer to provide your own, this is not an issue. I use my own leads and I have a few long lines, for recall training. I just ask that you supply a dog with a harness and or collar with a dog identity tag attached I have owned multiple house rabbits (destruction machines!) and offered small animal and cat sitting for years. If you would like to see additional photos and videos, please visit my social media pages on facebook and instagram @thepaddypawsco I always meet with the owner and pet(s) before taking instruction. This is to reassure the owner and discuss requirement, but most importantly, so your pet knows me and feels safe with me. If there are any particular training techniques you wish for me to follow, we can discuss this at our initial meeting so I can ensure that your training is continued. Walks are charged at £12.50 per hour and dogs are walking in groups of a maximum of 4. I am canine first aid trained and I am completing my level 3 in canine behaviour. I have also completed a number a CPD courses with IMDT, including a two day dog training program. It’s important to me that I am as up to date with the industry standard so I can provide the best level of care. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss you requirements and meet your more fluffy members of your family! Rachel

What do you love most about your job?

I love that working with dogs have given me agency to dive deep into my fascination of canine behaviour and the science behind dogs. Asside from this, soending the whole day with dogs is never a bad day, in my opinion.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Since I was little, I have wanted to work with animals. Unfortunately, back then it was either vet or veterinary nurse and I couldn't inject them or hurt them in any way, even if it was for thwir own good. I was always the kid who fed everyone's pets and watered the plants while they were away, but I would spend most of my time playing with the pets and I’d have to be dragged home for tea. Unfortunately, we had a number of years without pets, due to my parents work commitments, so I started walking my next door neighbours dog daily, taking her to the vet, washing and clipping her, as my neighbour was disabled. I think this is where the bug really started!

I was worried about being self employed and not being able to earn a ‘proper’ wage, but after some encouragement from my husband and saving up, I handed my notice in at my office job and started volunteering at a kennel, while completing training and welcoming a new dog to our home.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am experienced with Dogs, Cats and Rabbits, having owned and cared for all during my time. I treat every pet as if it was my own and do all I can to constantly update my knowledge, drawing on support from other professionals and studying the animals that I work with day to day. I study with IMDT, The British College of Canine studies and Canine Principles. I also partake in zoom training courses by other industry professionals. Oh and Iread google scholar for fun…

I am fully insured, DBS clear and first aid trained. I don't walk more than four dogs at the same time and I have a lot of experience with rescue dogs, disabled dogs, reactive/nervous dogs and large breeds as well as house rabbits (my secret obsession!).

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I now use my own leads, but a lot of the guidelines introduced, I was already following to avoid spreading contagious illnesses around my clients. Everything the dogs have access to is regularly cleaned throughout the day and deep cleaned weekly. I always have soap and water and hand santiser. I now also have a face mask, but have implimented a no contact collection and drop off procedure. I have completed a Covid safty course specifically for dog walkers.
