After a while searching for a new graphic designer I came across Victoria. I found her to be excellent in taking the time to understand my companies various needs. After an initial trial to see the standard of work I was very impressed with not only the results but the determination to work with my requests and consistent adjustments to get just the way I wanted it. Nothing is too much hassle and despite sending over last minute jobs on a number of occasions she was able to turnaround quickly. I now use her for all my companies work over the last few months and plan on continuing to do so. More...
Describe your creative process.
Here’s a breakdown of how I approach a design project:
1. Understanding the Brief
• Initial Consultation: I start by thoroughly understanding the client’s needs, goals, target audience, and the message they want to convey. I ask questions to clarify the purpose of the project and the expected outcome. It’s also useful if the client can share design examples or mood boards.
Research: I then dive into researching the client’s industry, competitors, and design trends relevant to the project. This helps me gather inspiration and set the stage for ideation.
2. Ideation and Conceptualization
• Drafting the Design: I then move into creating the actual design using tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or other design software. I focus on bringing the concept to life through typography, color palettes, imagery, and other design elements.
4. Feedback and Iteration
• Client Review: I present the initial design to the client for feedback. This step is crucial as it allows for adjustments and ensures the design aligns with the client’s vision.
• Revisions: Based on the feedback, I make necessary revisions, refining the design until it meets both the client’s expectations and my creative standards.
5. Finalization
• Exporting and Delivery: I prepare the final files in the required formats, ensuring they are optimized for print, web, or other mediums as needed. I also provide any additional assets, like style guides or source files, if required.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Before starting the work, I need the following key information from the client:
1. Project Overview
• Objective: What is the primary goal of the project? Is it to promote a product, build brand awareness, or communicate a specific message?
• Scope: What deliverables are required (e.g., logos, brochures, website design, social media graphics)? Understanding the scope helps define the workload and timeline.
2. Target Audience
• Demographics: Who is the intended audience? Age, gender, location, and interests can influence design choices.
• Psychographics: Understanding the audience's values, preferences, and behavior can help tailor the design to resonate with them.
3. Brand Guidelines
• Existing Branding: Are there existing brand guidelines that need to be followed, such as specific colors, fonts, or logos?
• Brand Personality: How does the brand want to be perceived? Is it modern, traditional, playful, or professional? This will guide the overall style of the design.
4. Content and Copy
• Text and Imagery: What text, images, or other content will be included in the design? If the client is providing these, it’s important to have them upfront, or if I need to create or source them, that should be clarified.
• Tone of Voice: What tone or message should the content convey? This ensures that the design aligns with the intended communication.
5. Design Preferences
• Examples and Inspiration: Are there any design styles, mood boards, or examples the client likes or dislikes? This helps set expectations and align on the visual direction.
• Competitor Designs: Seeing competitors' designs can provide insights into industry standards and help differentiate the client’s brand.
6. Budget and Timeline
• Budget: What is the client’s budget for the project? This influences the scope and complexity of the design work.
• Deadlines: Are there specific deadlines or milestones that need to be met? Knowing the timeline helps in planning the workflow and managing expectations.
7. Technical Requirements
• File Formats: What final file formats are required (e.g., JPEG, PNG, vector files)? This ensures that the deliverables meet the client’s needs.
• Platform Specifications: If the design is for a specific platform (e.g., website, social media, print), understanding the technical requirements (dimensions, resolution, etc.) is essential.
Gathering this information upfront ensures a smooth design process, aligns expectations, and leads to a final product that effectively meets the client’s goals.
