My daughter had been suffering with emetephobia for over 3 years and as well as it affecting her start to college it was also affecting her socially and she had gradually stopped going out and if she did she had to leave early because of her fear of being sick and anxiety. She was a 16 year old girl who should be going out and enjoying herself and we knew we had to find something to help. Ruth and Thrive has helped my daughter so much. She has learned and practised how to try not to get into a panic and rethink the situation before it escalates. She finished her course 2 weeks ago and is still thriving. Before I started going to Ruth for sessions, I felt so out of control with my life. My emetophobia controlled my entire life; I felt I couldn’t go anywhere without feeling sick, which took a big toll on my life as I am in college and missing days isn’t convenient, but kept happening. Once I started therapy as the weeks went on I began noticing clear changes in myself; the book and journal are so helpful as the book gives you the information and the journal really helps you plan. Not only this, Ruth’s sessions really give you a place to speak freely and I always left them feeling more confident and in control. Now that I have finished my sessions, I feel fully in control in my life. I haven’t had a day off college in ages and even find myself getting excited as I can enjoy it now. Same with everyday life I say yes to so many more things and feel a lot more independent. We completed the Emetohobia free programme with our 12-year-old daughter, and it was a life-changing experience for the whole family. Before starting the programme we had been seeing a child psychologist and followed a therapy with her but it did not help fully stopping Zelda from having anxiety / panic attacks. I firstly would like to thank Ruth, my Thrive coach, for helping me gain back control over my life. Previously, I felt completely lost and stuck in a cycle of catastrophising and brooding.
Overthinking and being pessimistic. However, after my sessions with Ruth, I’ve completely changed and finally gained control over my anxiety that I wanted, rather than my anxiety having control over me.
Ruth is a lovely woman; who is easy to talk to and always made me feel safe and comfortable in her presence. I didn’t feel judged by her and she helped me recognise my own judgement over my actions and stayed neutral but supportive of my feelings. She helped push me towards a better future without being forceful and allowed me to control how quickly I recovered whilst offering me the support I desperately needed. I cannot rave enough about her, every day I’m doing what she taught me. Whether that is coping methods or simply procrastinating my anxiety until the night before. Ruth has been an amazing support over these last few months. We've gone into great detail to support my hunger to recover from fatigue.
No question was too silly. Ruth always responded to questions with in depth explanations about the topics being explored and has encouraged me with everything. We've ended up discussing lots of theory and beyond due to my interest, but it always felt like Ruth also enjoyed these discussions and was able to bring in her other 'hat' to further enrich the value of what she could give me.
She was fantastic at communicating with me between sessions, sometimes writing quite long emails to answer my questions. I always felt supported and understood and will really miss our chats. I feel quite sad the sessions are over!

Our experience with Ruth was ideal. Ruth’s mixture of knowledge and insight, sprinkled with just the right tone and humor worked incredibly well to help our teenage daughter (and us along with her) tackle and succeed with this incredible program! As with any start, we were worried we would be setting our daughter up for another disappointing experience with therapy that only allowed her to manage her emetophobia rather than working to conquer it. We were tense going into the consultation, but having the ability to meet Ruth before signing up and talk through the steps and how the program works while also getting to know each other, soothed any doubts or worries we had in moving forward and we never looked back after that. Throughout our sessions she kept us on track and motivated, shared personal experiences to help inform us further and remain totally accessible, demonstrated her full knowledge of THRIVE and how to work it specifically towards our daughter as her own unique person in this world, and allowed us to feel comfortable with any questions and situations we wanted to discuss. Being a teenager it has stopped me from doing lots of opportunities which is why I decided to do the programme with Ruth.
Ruth was amazing and gave me the most helpful advice and encouragement. I always felt comfortable asking her anything I was unsure about when reading the manual as well as any questions. It has changed my whole thinking processes and now I completely understand where/how this phobia came from.
