How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
To check if your loft can be converted, measure from the floor to the highest point—at least 2.2m is ideal. You’ll also need space for a staircase from the floor below, suitable roof structure, and no major planning restrictions. An architectural professional will confirm if it’s possible as part of a first meet and/or measured survey.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
A loft conversion usually falls under permitted development, meaning you don’t need planning permission if it meets certain rules. However, you may need permission if it extends beyond the existing roof slope at the front, exceeds 40m³ (terraced) or 50m³ (semi/detached), or if your home is in a conservation area. An architectural professional will check this and produce proposals. Building work will include strengthening the floor, adding insulation, windows, and stairs. Once wiring, plumbing, and plastering are done, a final inspection from building control ensures everything is safe and compliant with the regulations.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We offer our services both in person and remotely, depending on the project type and client preferences. For some projects, we can provide remote consultations, design work, and planning advice. For more complex projects requiring on-site assessments, structural checks, and detailed measurements, in-person visits may be necessary. Our flexible approach ensures our clients get expert guidance in the most convenient and cost-effective way. We tailor our services to suit.
