Q&As

Realising the potential of a garden, working with a customer to make a garden a place of joy, inspiration, calm and pleasure... Being outdoors in all weathers... the creative and practical challenges of making and maintaining beautiful spaces... drawing on the expertise of our great little team.

A desire to make high quality, horticultural craftsmanship available to as many people as possible; for customers wanting beautiful gardens and for employees wanting to hone excellent horticultural skills.

Quality garden work, provided in a reliable, respectful way from gardeners who love their craft.

Online services are limited. We predominantly work on the land, but we do use our office for garden planning and garden design work; these plans and presentations can be delivered remotely.

We work outside and can keep a safe distance from customers whilst working. We will liaise with you in advance to agree when to visit your garden, which entrances to use and how to be respectful of your home and your health.

Services

Keeping borders looking their best, right across the seasons; be it splitting and dividing plants that are getting too dominant, mulching the soil to improve its composition, dead-heading fading flower heads, planting annuals to fill pockets between perennials or encouraging self-sowers.

Gardens need attention in all weathers and weeds do not rest in their pursuit of world domination! Whether it is regularly keeping on top of new weed seedlings, or restoring a bed that has become overrun, weeding is an integral part of most garden work. Experienced at spotting what is a weed, and what is a promising self-sower, We’re rarely happier than when tidying up a border.

We can realise your garden’s potential, meeting your practical needs and personal style. Working with trusted local landscapers, designs can be built to restore, renew or reinvigorate your space. Adept at working to a budget and adapting ideas to suit the requirements of the site.

Using plants and horticultural methods that encourage and support wildlife, gardens can be both visually appealing and rich in biodiversity. Managed with care, individual spaces can become passing and permanent homes for wildflowers, bees, birds, butterflies and other animals.

Looking after the soil is vital to maintaining healthy plants and it is amazing the difference the addition of good compost (or other soil improvers) can make. Grounded in science and a good understanding of different plant’s needs, we can work to develop a compost or mulching system to suit your garden’s needs.

With industry-standard safety training in hedge-cutting, reliable equipment and using excellent, light and versatile tripod ladders from Japan, all hedges can be cut to the shapes, size and style required.

A carefully monitored routine of feeding, watering, dead-heading and tying-in will keep your pots at their best throughout the year. Planted seasonally, pots can add impact to any garden whether as stand alone pieces, or as part of a grouped display.

There are few things more cheering than a bunch of flowers grown from your own garden.

Using traditional craft techniques and materials, such as 2 ply and 5 ply twines, pea sticks, hazel poles, chestnut poles and bamboo canes; plants are given the support they need ahead of time and with an eye to aesthetic discretion.

Shade is sometimes considered a handicap to growing healthy and interesting plants, but far from it! Shade and woodland plants add depth, joy and interest - often at otherwise dull times of year - to a garden or managed woodland.

Clearing and restoring overgrown gardens. Removing weeds, including brambles, bulbs and roots, cutting back shrubs and hedges to a manageable state and ensuring the space is left clear and ready for a fresh approach.

Planting plants, bulbs and shrubs in the right places, to the right depths and with the right support to help them establish, grow and flourish.

Fruit and vegetables are grown and maintained with an understanding for their use and flavour in the kitchen

All types of pruning, assessed and undertaken to suit the plant’s health, function and aesthetic qualities.
