How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
There are many things to consider when checking if a garage is suitable for a conversion, mainly checking local regulations amd permits. It is also advisable to check structual soundness ie foundations, walls & roof/ceilings.
Another key element is the utilities, and planning weather the electrical and water supply need moved or upgraded.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
If a conversion is possible then start with planning and permission- define the purpose of the new room and check what permits/warrants are required.
Clear the garage and start disconnecting utilities then move onto any other demolition. Once demolition is complete move onto structual modifications, alter the floor, walls and insulation, windows & doors.
After structure work is complete move onto reinstating utilities, plumbing and electrics.
Move onto any framing, plasterboarding and flooring before doing final fix finishings.
Once all this is completed and you are satisfied then start with the decorating before a final inspection.
