Avoid at All Costs – Completely Unreliable and Unprofessional I had an absolutely dreadful experience with Proactive Cleaners, and I feel compelled to warn others before they make the same mistake. This company is anything but “proactive” — in fact, they were consistently late, disorganized, and made up excuse after excuse to cover their complete lack of professionalism. We hired Proactive Cleaners for a property clearance job between tenancies. The scope of work was made very clear: remove 4 large sofas, lift and dispose of approx. 75m² of carpet, and take away some loose materials and general rubbish. We even provided photographs to avoid any ambiguity. We were told a team would arrive at the property on Sunday 24th August at 9:00 AM. We arrived at 8:30 AM to be ready for them. By 9:15 AM — still no sign of them. We started calling the office. After several attempts, we were told at 9:45 AM the team was “30 minutes away” due to traffic. Let’s be clear — this was Sunday morning of a bank holiday weekend. Roads were empty. “Traffic” was just the first of many lies. Fast-forward to 11:15 AM — still no one had arrived. After 8–10 phone calls, we were told the vehicle had a “hazard onboard” and that was delaying them. Moments later, the excuse changed again: now the “team had called in sick.” That’s three completely different stories within two hours. Eventually, we were offered a refund, but as we needed the work done urgently, we agreed to reschedule for Tuesday 26th August at 4:00 PM. This is where it gets even more farcical. We arrived at the property at 3:45 PM and were pleasantly surprised to see a single team member already there. But our relief quickly vanished — he had no idea what he was supposed to do. After showing him around, he admitted he couldn’t handle the job alone and immediately called for backup. Then I received yet another call from Jade at Proactive Cleaners, this time claiming the job was underestimated — and that removing glued-down carpets would cost extra. I reminded her that we had explicitly stated in our original messages that the carpets (75m²) were to be lifted and removed, and at no point did their team inspect how they were fixed to the floor. To be clear: I was standing right next to the worker. He never checked the carpets. More lies. (Later that week the carpets were removed by one man another company in an hour) At that point, we’d had enough. We told Jade to cancel the job and send the team home. The constant shifting of blame, changing stories, and sheer incompetence was beyond frustrating — it was insulting. This company failed to deliver on every single aspect of what they promised: They were late (by hours). They sent an understaffed and uninformed team. They changed their excuses constantly (traffic, hazards, sick team, etc.). They tried to charge extra for work we had already discussed and agreed upon. They wasted our time, twice. Bottom line: This was an unprofessional, poorly run, and completely unreliable experience from start to finish. Do not be lured by their low prices — the stress, wasted time, and frustration are not worth it. There are many better and more honest companies out there. Avoid Proactive Cleaners at all costs. Update: I had my kitchen cleaned by this company in April. Courtesy of them throwing away many of my possessions without permission and doing nothing about it, I posted a critical review. I heard precisely nothing about it until 30.06.2025 (months later) where they have finally posted a reply expressing faux concern and encouraging me to call them. I have called them - more than once. I have left messages. Surprise, surprise - they cannot be bothered to call back. Again, feigning concern on the public platform for an audience but in reality, not prepared to lift a finger. And they could have easily called me as they had all my details in order to do the clean. No, the onus is on the customer to do all the work. This is a warning to any future potential customers about what you can expect from customer service. Avoid like the plague. ********* ORIGINAL REVIEW: I would not recommend this company. I hired them to clean my kitchen last month. They did a sterling job of cleaning the kitchen but were extremely casual with my possessions throwing away numerous items that were perfectly fine. Yes, they were dirty but isn't that why I might have hired cleaners? I am now without numerous kitchen utensils which will cost hundreds of pounds to replace. The worst loss is my Panasonic bread maker which was in constant use and will cost £200 to buy. I logged a complaint about this but despite giving them weeks to investigate, I have heard precisely nothing. The cleaners had very poor English. As such, communication was painful. They did not understand even the most basic request. This is not the fault of the individuals but it is the fault of the company. I had to be at work that day but did give my mobile number to the team should they have any queries. I heard nothing. And when I came home, my possessions were gone. Saucepans, knives, Brita water jug, plastic storage boxes, wine stopper, wine cooler, pizza cutter, fish slice, measuring jugs, potato masher, casserole dishes, lasagne dishes, ovenproof trays, plates, bowls etc. The list is endless. Perfectly good jams and lemon curd that were barely opened, various vinegars and oils including olive oil which is very expensive. As stated, despite logging a complaint, nobody has bothered to get back to me let alone make amends for the damage done. Never has a company been more poorly named. Proactive Cleaning indeed. Far from it - passive to the point of comatose. The name could be sued under the Trade Descriptions Act. Added to this, when I returned home, my garden was full of people including numerous children. The children were perfectly well-behaved but my query would be why they were there at all? Are customers supposed to be some form of creche for this company’s offspring? If so, it might be nice to be told about this that rather than come home to a garden crowded with complete strangers. In conclusion, I would advise against hiring this company. The kitchen clean was excellent but the casual disregard for someone else's possessions is hard to take. Not even a thought to check with the owner before just throwing things away. Plainly recycling and the environment are not a concern. They are all over you like a bad rash when they want your business but the minute there is a problem, you will be ignored and consigned to the leper colony. Unless you can be at home for every minute breathing down their necks monitoring every move to ensure that your possessions are not being consigned to that big scrap heap in the sky, it is not worth the aggravation. We recently had Proactive Cleaners in to deep clean the kitchen at The Woolpack pub, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The team was incredibly professional, efficient, and thorough from start to finish. Every corner of the kitchen was spotless by the time they finished, and the attention to detail was outstanding. I live in a rented accommodation and these where the company the estate agents and landlord chose to go with. The decorating work they did is not visually pleasing at all, I’ll be rectifying it myself and the silicon work around the fitted bath looks bad too, I thought you had to fill a bath tub with water before doing the silicon work, which they didn’t so I’m assuming I’ll be redoing that down the line too. They told my partner it’ll be a 1 day job we are on day 3 now and I’m currently sat here whilst they clean a good amount of dust from a PlayStation 5 and TV as they sanded down above it unprotected. We pay a lot of money to live in a privately rented house and I’m disappointed that the estate agents “B Simmons and Sons.” And my Landlord chose to go with this I’m assuming was the cheapest option. I couldn’t communicate with the staff as they couldn’t speak English. The team I spoke to over the phone are nice and friendly and I’m sure they’d make sure it gets done properly but for what the job was and for how long it’s all taking I’ve just simply had enough and rather just sort it myself and the mess that was made over some expensive electronics just makes me really not want these guys here anymore. The team over the phone get 5 stars the men doing the work get 1. The Men who did the work asked me to leave a review. I’m not sure why. My contact at Proactive Cleaners was Jade Sidhu - Executive Assistant, and everything had to be handled remotely as I live distantly. From my initial contact Jade was sympathetic to the situation, pleasant and easy to deal with. She was highly professional in rapidly organising a site visit and advising appropriate cleaning options which have now taken place. As part of the service I was sent a pictorial 'before and after' report and Jade has since followed up in answering a few questions around it. Deeply dissatisfied with the recent cleaning service provided last week and subsequent poor customer service from your team. To begin with, the quality of the cleaning service was far below the standard I expected based on your company's reputation and grand claims made upon booking and the assurances given by Jade during the booking process. The cleaners missed several key areas, including some basic tasks. I didn’t expect piles of dust to be left. Additionally, the floors were left streaky, and I found that surfaces were not thoroughly cleaned. This level of service is unacceptable, especially considering the premium price I was charged. The pictures speak for themselves. To make matters worse, when I contacted your team to report these issues first thing, I was met with a defensive, dismissive and unhelpful response (at the end of the day). Despite my clear explanations of the problems, the representatives I spoke with were dismissive, patronising and defensive, and left me feeling ignored and frustrated. Having lost faith in the company I was not offered the refund I wanted, instead 2 cleaners - who admitted it had been a poor job previously - came the next day to complete what should have been done on day 1. Also, it was not convenient to me as I was moving home and having carpets fitted later that day. I expect a professional company to take customer complaints seriously.
