Ice-skating at Christmas, at Westpoint, has been one of the best local events this Christmas. Today was our third visit this season and I can't rave about it enough. The ice is real ice which is compact and well cared for between each session. The staff on the counter are efficient and the staff on the rink absolutely superb. While they're not there to teach, one gentleman who trains the ice hockey team was pivotal in our experiences. Simple tips, such as to ensure the boot at the top is tight, this made a huge difference alone! Then helping us to find confidence from taking baby steps, clinging on to the side for dear life, to slowly learning how to glide (a little) by bending at the knee and tilting forward. Looking longingly at those who glide at speed with the ability to stop on a sixpence. I envy them! But honestly, it's such fun. So much so I'm booking some lessons in Bristol so that next year we can hopefully glide gracefully around! Bravo Exeter City Council for the decision to host icescape. Every year we travel to the Eden project just to fumble around for 45 minutes. With it on the doorstep, I intend to go many more times next year. Please do bring it back 🙏 And to all the team, thank you for all that you do 🫶 The only small improvement would be to have some lockers, on the third time I printed the ticket, not daring to have my phone in my pocket for fear of smashing it, which saved going back to the car once the ticket was scanned. We are hoping to visit one last time before it closes ⛸️❄️ More...

The ice skating was great fun, and they prepared well for our large group. The staff were friendly, but at the end it was rather chaotic as it was not obvious where you were supposed to go.

Went to Westpoint to try the temporary Ice Rink. We went with some family friends & a great time was had by all.... There are good facilities, toilets, benches, food & drinks. . I must say the chips were outstanding, I can't comment on the mulled wine/cider, as I was driving, but the smell was amazing. A great place to take the family, session not too short or too long. Ideal. More...

I’ve just had final building regulations approval for my loft conversion project and it’s been an efficient process. I’m really happy with the final designs - far better than my early vision and with a genius approach to raising the height to create a more functional space over the former flat roof accounting for level changes. I’ve felt in safe hands throughout the process and appreciate the great communication and collaborative approach. I look forward to starting the build next year. I appreciated the recommended contractors list as it was difficult to know where to start and I think I’ve found the right one now for me now. They also were very complimentary of NewSpace having worked to their plans previously. More...

Went for the fireworks show, was a lovely family experience. Lots of food vendors and amusements. And for charity which explained the questionable prices. All in all a good evening. Not much to say on West point itself as the place was dark and covered in smoke by the time the fireworks was over 🤣 More...

I cannot fault the service we received from New Space. Went to the wedding fair lots of stalls there got lots of ideas and venues to look at. Loved the catwalk although I would have liked to have seen other wedding dresses in different colours not just white. Had a nice day. Managed to try on rings and get an idea of what style we want. Very positive day. More...

What do you love most about your job?
At New Space Architecture we love helping people improve their quality of life by transforming the spaces that they inhabit or creating new spaces entirely. We think differently to most and will always listen carefully to how our clients like to live before jumping straight to what they want designed. We love seeing the joy a new space brings to our clients and how it completely changes their lives for the better and this, we think, is what we love most.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Founding Director, Mitch Temple, started New Space Architecture out of a place of frustration that things could and should be done better. Having seen far too many poor examples of design and particularly construction drawings, Mitch decided to start something new that not only gave brilliant customer care and experience but also was able to back that up with innovative design and an extremely detailed knowledge of construction. This combination of client care, design innovation and building knowledge forms the basis of the company and is why New Space Architecture stands out as a leader amongst its peers.
Why should our clients choose you?
Ultimately our clients should choose us because we believe we are the best in the business at what we do. We understand the importance of real constraints such as a fixed budget and will endeavour to make sure that any work we do marries with the realism of every day life. Too often you hear about architects designing something that is double the original budget (and often even the design is praised) whereas for us this doesn't represent good design. Good design only works if it is also achievable for the client and this is something that is always at the forefront of our minds as we undertake your project. The reviews and recommendations we get from clients, contractors and industry professionals speak for themselves and we are proud to offer the customer experience that we do.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We are more than happy to meet online via Zoom or similar in order to discuss your project however we are a very personal company and do prefer to get to know you face to face. At New Space Architecture we offer a free initial meeting to discuss all of the above and to help you understand any necessary applications or consents that might be involved. As part of this, we will come and meet you at your property or building plot to not only ensure that we fully understand the site and its context, but more importantly to make sure that we truly understand your own wants and needs for the proposed design.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
The recent pandemic meant that we had to adapt slightly during the lockdowns etc and we ended up doing a lot of our meetings virtually with our clients. If we needed to attend site then we would make sure everyone was wearing a mask and doors and windows were left open. As restrictions start to ease we are able to continue to offer these virtual services but are also happy to attend on site as normal… we just ask that our clients let us know what they are most comfortable with and adapt to suit.
Detailed Design Solutions
For each and every project that we undertake, our service and commitment is always to you, the client. From bespoke design to detailed building regulations and construction drawings, our creative design team will take you through the entire architectural process, ensuring the highest quality of design is achieved as well as all necessary permissions and consents.
Beyond this, we’ll do everything we can to help you realise your project by using our technical knowledge and skills to guide you through the design and construction process by prioritising your wants and needs, considering your budget and unleashing your imagination. We are so much more than just a local architect – we are problem solvers, detailed designers, out-of-the-box thinkers, never give up-ers, imagination inspirers and impossible dreamers. We’re with you all the way…
3D Rendering & Virtual Reality
The use of modern, state-of-the-art technologies like 3D rendering and virtual reality to help design and visualise a project has always been a crucial part in helping clients and professionals alike to really understand exactly what the proposed design will look like in its context – without so much as a shovel being put in the ground.
Made famous by the popular BBC program 'Your Home Made Perfect', our virtual reality headset allows you as the user to experience exactly what it will feel like to walk around your own new space so you can truly enter and understand the design – and all this right from the comfort of our own design studio in Exeter.
Whichever form they take, 3D visualisations can have a huge impact on the design process and be useful if you are struggling to fully understand the space, or if a planning officer is struggling to assess the impact of the project on its surroundings.
Whatever the design need, our expertise and experience in the use of 3D renders and virtual reality technology can really help bring your project to life and, more importantly, to help you start to unleash your own imagination.
Whether you are looking at anything from a conversion for your home, to a commercial project, you can speak to a member of the New Space team today about our 3D rendering options in Exeter.
Free Consultation
The first step in pursuing any building project is to talk to an architect or planning consultant for advice on design, budget, materials, processes etc. Whether your project is a small single storey extension, barn conversion or a bespoke new build home, gaining some initial advice and insight from an experienced professional is a wise first move – especially if it is a free consultation!
At New Space Architecture we offer exactly that – a free initial meeting to discuss all of the above and to help you understand any necessary applications or consents that might be involved. As part of this, we will come and meet you at your property or building plot to not only ensure that we fully understand the site and its context, but more importantly to make sure that we truly understand your own wants and needs for the proposed design.
From advice on permitted development to guidance on planning permission and building regulations applications, we will ensure you have all the relevant information you need to be able to feel confident in moving forward with your project and taking that first step towards realising your dream… and all of this with no obligation to proceed – who could ask for more?
If you would like to arrange a consultation with one of our design team then please do get in touch… we would love to hear from you.
Building Regulations
Most people looking to undertake a building project understand that they may require planning approval first. What people often don’t realise however is that once planning permission has been granted they are still very likely to require building regulations approval too.
At New Space Architecture this is where we really start to sing. Few architects are able to offer the same level of exceptional clarity and detail that we consistently demonstrate in our detailed building regulations and construction drawings. Our intelligent design ability combined with our exceptional knowledge of construction techniques and current building regulations ensures that our detailed drawings are among the best in the industry, praised by local builders and building inspectors alike.
It is even not uncommon for us to receive work from other architects who simply cannot provide this service to a high enough standard and we have built an impressive reputation for quality and depth of knowledge within this industry.
Having quality building regulation drawings that demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of construction within current regulations is vital to any building project. This will not only allow your building regulations application to get approved quickly but more importantly, will make it easier for contractors to price the project accurately. Good construction drawings will also save you time and money across the build with any awkward junctions or details already resolved.
This is a service that we excel at and simply love to provide. Just ask any of our clients, local builders or local inspectors… This is what we do, who we are and why we are here for you.
Planning Consultancy
Obtaining Planning Permission can often seem like a daunting and confusing process. Each Local Authority has its own individual ‘Development Plan’ with numerous and varying policies, and navigating your way through this can be both stressful and time-consuming.
New Space Architecture aims to eliminate any uncertainty by drawing on our wealth of experience and expertise as a planning consultancy in Exeter, dealing with all aspects of any necessary application. We will prepare and produce detailed planning drawings, comprehensive design and access statements and call upon our network of experienced consultants to provide any other supporting information that may be required depending on the nature of your project. These can include items such as ecology statements, flood risk analysis and arboricultural reports.
Whatever your proposal, we will do everything possible to ensure a positive outcome for you and your project, whether you are planning your new bespoke home, converting an old barn or simply extending your home.
Architectural Design
There are so many things to consider in any architectural design before putting pen to paper. Fortunately, New Space Architecture is here to help make this process as simple but thorough as possible.
When you choose to work with us, we want to make sure we fully understand you, your project and your requirements. To do so, we will take an extensive look at your design brief and needs by asking you questions about how you live and work. Doing so, we can understand exactly what kind of new space you are looking for.
In addition to this, each site or location will have its own set of unique design constraints. Whether it’s the topography of the land, orientation and views, boundaries and existing structures, these must all be recognised and carefully considered to ensure that your proposed design not only meets your brief, but also maximises the potential of the plot.
Then, of course, there is the budget. Given the high costs per square metre for building work, the efficiency and creativity of your new space is vital. At New Space Architecture our experienced and creative team will come up with bespoke design solutions by engaging with you personally to guarantee the proposal fits your brief, and ensuring we consider your budget to make sure what we propose is achievable.
Put simply, our design process starts with a member of the New Space team listening to your needs and encouraging you to dream. Your new space should be comfortable, practical, functional and a pleasure to inhabit and it is our absolute joy to help you realise its true potential. We’re with you every step of the way.
So get in contact with us today about our architectural design services from our Exeter office. Let a member of our team help you create your dream New Space.
