Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a fast-acting therapy that helps people to start living the life they want to live. Rather than focusing on your problems or asking you to examine them, SFBT looks at what you do want, how you’d prefer things to be and what’s already working. It promotes feelings of hopefulness, identifying and building on your strengths, skills and resources to move towards your preferred future. SFBT empowers you as it has, at its heart, the fundamental principle that we are the experts in our own lives and can, therefore, find the solutions to our problems.

Each one of us has an innate wisdom and know what changes we would like to make for the better. SFBT focuses on solutions and achieving results quickly, but that doesn’t mean it cuts corners or is less thorough than more lengthy traditional therapies. It produces profound and lasting changes for people in a fraction of the time using a highly effective approach. SFBT looks for a client’s strengths and it is based around hope rather than fear. Instead of picking over the past, which can re-traumatise people who have had difficult experiences, our discussions are forward-looking and, as its name says, solution-focused. Evidence supports that it is one of the most effective ways of bringing about personal transformation and many clients achieve outstanding results.

Rather than delving into your past to try and find what might have caused the problems you are experiencing, we look for the way forward from where you are right now. SFBT is founded on the premise that each individual is an expert in their own life and can find the solution to their own problems if they are asked the right questions. As your therapist, I trust that you know what to do rather than regarding myself as “the expert”. I ask questions to enable you to find the answers for yourself and bring about rapid change. SFBT can be effective in treating a range of different issues including anxiety, low mood, sleep and addictions. It can also be used to help people cope with health-related problems such as chronic fatigue or long-term pain.

During Solution Focused Brief Therapy, I will ask you questions that invite you to define what you are hoping for in life. Together, we will explore exactly what would be different in your life if these hopes were fulfilled – from the way you felt inside to the way you interacted with other people. And I will ask you to notice if there are any elements of this wished-for life that are already in place or if there have been any positive changes, however small, that have occurred since your last session. People use SFBT to tackle all kinds of issues, including personal and work-related.

Hypnotherapy is an effective way to change thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. It uses a naturally-occurring state called hypnosis (sometimes also referred to as trance), which feels very similar to daydreaming or the state between waking and sleeping. When you are in this state, you are more able to focus on what the hypnotherapist is saying to you and more accepting of suggestions made to you. These suggestions are based on the changes you’ve said you want to make in your life.

In order to bring about lasting change, we often need to de-programme the thoughts, beliefs or behaviours that our unconscious mind has been running for many years. Hypnotherapy is an effective way to do this because when a person is in a state of hypnosis, the conscious mind is more relaxed and accepting of making changes. At the start of the session we’ll discuss the things you’d like to feel differently about and what this might look and feel like to you. While you are in a hypnotic trance, I will talk to you, repeating some of your own words to make suggestions directly to your unconscious mind and guiding you into exploring new possibilities and accepting new ideas. It is a pleasant experience akin to daydreaming. It is not mind control as you remain fully in control and conscious.

Hypnotherapy can be an effective way to change the way you react to things so you can use considered responses instead. During our conversation at the beginning of the session, I will ask you to talk about the aspects of your life you’d like to change and we’ll discuss what these changes might look like, how you might feel if they occurred, what you might do differently and so on. Once you are in the relaxed state we call hypnosis, I will reflect this discussion back to you while your unconscious mind – the part of you that needs to change for transformation to be sustained – is more receptive and open.

Being in a state of hypnosis is not like being asleep. You will remain conscious throughout, however, you will feel relaxed. I often use guided visualisation, which is where I ask you to picture certain things in your mind as you would if you were daydreaming. This is because images appeal directly to the unconscious mind and, so, it is powerful to use these alongside the spoken word.

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and is not intended as an alternative to speaking to a doctor about a health issue. Always consult your doctor before having any complementary therapy.

Rewind Trauma Therapy is recognised as an effective technique for people with Post Traumatic Stress particularly anyone who has flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or high levels of anxiety. It is sometimes called “closure without disclosure” because it doesn’t require you to disclose anything about your trauma in order to work.
Rewind Trauma Therapy is internationally-recognised as an effective way to treat PTSD. Because it doesn’t require you to relive the events that led to the trauma, it is suitable for people who are anxious about becoming re-traumatised by talking about what happened. It’s also ideal for service personnel, police and medical staff for whom disclosure is problematic and has been shown to be effective for people who’ve experienced multiple traumas.
Rewind Trauma Therapy requires two or three sessions to deal with a single event trauma. For multiple traumas, each one is dealt with separately. You do not need to talk about the experience for the traumatic event to be effectively ‘filed away’ in your mind so it no longer causes day-to-day difficulties.
The therapy will not make you forget your traumatic memories. However, it can stop the involuntary recall, flashbacks, nightmares and overthinking that can be triggered in many different ways for people with PTSD. It is fast and effective and minimises the risk of becoming re-traumatised.
