We got John to build the base for our garage it worked out really good John and his men came on Wednesday to get the base ready for the concrete to be delivered on Friday . John did some work for us (rebuilding and repointing of a garden wall) in November 2021 for which we left a glowing review on the site. However, all the pointing he did started to fail after a few months and it seems to be just sand with very little cement in the mix. We contacted John and he said he would 100% come and fix it but just one excuse after another and he still hasn’t appeared. He will no longer take my calls and despite leaving voicemail, I don’t get any response. I know John is semi-retired, so I asked for Paul’s number, but he hasn’t given me that either. A real poor show by someone I trusted to do a good job. I’m so disappointed in John and his lack of concern regarding this problem with his work and I thought better of him. More...

John and the team took down an internal wall, then closed off a stair case, sorted the electrics and re-plastered the new room to give us a larger more open plan living room.
The team were always on or ahead of time, hard working, polite, but you could have a laugh with them. John would check in each day at least once, but usually more often to check that the work and quality was to satisfaction. (Even checking that 'the boys' had cleaned up after themselves)
The price was very reasonable and the work of good quality with a definite personal touch.

John answered.my request for a quote about a repair/new fenc immediately. He came the following day with good advice and a quote. The work was started the following week. I had anew fence with new gate within a week.

Done front garden
Driveway, built wall and New step.
Wall built but wasn’t long enough so he knocked that down re built wall. Said I’m lucky he didn’t charge me more for having to re build again. Looks like he built the wall on top on the monoblocks so will see how long it stands for. The wall didn’t go as far along as the first time it was built so now there’s a very noticeable stupid gap between the wall and fence. Same corner no monoblocks in the corner filled in with stones looks stupid will probably find something to cover up the eye sore. He said this is due to concrete holding the fence up but if this was the case why did it go all the way along the first time. Front garden step needed to be redone four or five times as kept coming loose. He said I need to stop people coming up and down even though I don’t get visitors. Done pathway from gate to back door using leftover materials then later charged me. I said it wasn’t discussed that I would be charged for using my own left over materials he said that’s a misunderstanding. Never done a boarder of monoblocks around the garden. Lost pattern in some places. Filled in some areas with sand to hide the fuck ups. Driveway is already sinking in some areas. Had a guy out to look and he said it’s like the Himalayas very uneven and he lifted a block and showed me that it hasn’t even been done deep enough

Back garden was late starting job to build new fence. Very unreliable on showing up for the job. Says it’s to do with delivery delays or due to sickness. Tried to change design from what was originally agreed. Seems like this took way longer than needed and he took advantage. Unprofessional by constantly asking for payment even though jobs weren’t done and i felt a bit of pressure to pay early and comply with what he wanted. Mentioned that if he never got payment he would rip it all up. Eventually i started to get annoyed and told him to wait until the job was finished. He said he was trying to help me by bringing my bill down. Between the sleepers for the planter and the wall there is a very noticeable gap. The pathway leading up to seating area slabs are already loose. Steps where redone but far too steep. Already weeds popping up through artificial grass. Tried to leave the job unfinished and still wanted me to pay. I refused and said he won’t be getting anything until the job was done correctly. Job is not worth the money paid. More...

We required a garden wall repaired and John responded to our request for a quote on the day that we contacted him. Gobsmacked at the other reviews. This guy mucked us about at a time when we had terminally ill family members to care for, he lied constantly, promised to be there we would take time off work and he just wouldn't show up, we had to call him to find out what was going on. The only plus he gets is he did evdntually pay the deposit back.
Other than that complete time waster (9 months of lies) had to put an SOS out as we desperately needed the building work done so a dying family member could come home, we eventually had a local builder come in and do the work within a week, they were horrified at the complete lack of professionalism. John the Builder and his lads have done exactly what we wanted. I now have an open plan living room/dinning room which has brought so much light into this area by knocking down a large wall and adding a metal beam as this was a load bearing wall. John has kept us up to date with calls of price and plans/architect/electrician and cleared up as much debri and dust as they could once they finished. The joiner and plasterer are completing and finishing off this week and we are very happy with the work completed so far. John and his team were friendly and polite and I have booked them for another job and would not hesitate to recommend them. John is a nice chap and after discussing what I want done I was happy with his price for the job. He originally needed 2 days to do internal wall removals, removing electrical sockets & switches then moving other sockets and the ceiling light fitting. On the day the electricians turned up nice and early and a few hours later all new cables & boxes fitted & the wiring in the attic sorted out safely. John and his crew obviously needed the electrics to be done before they could take walls down. There was a little snag not through any fault of mine or John which meant the end of one wall appeared to be not suitable to completely remove - good news is that a way has been found to get the result I wanted and, as there are some little bits to polish off he’s going to come and deal with the end of a wall that’s been a problem. His lads worked really hard and bless them they cleaned up behind them. John has also organised a plasterer we were just going to have the ceiling done but decided to have the walls re-plastered, it’s made a huge change (improvement) to the bungalow.
