What do you love most about your job?
I am passionate about caring for the elderly and we employ the Mum test to the people I employ. Would I be comfortable with this person caring for my Mum? If yes, I employ, if no......then not! I have been working in Social Care for around twenty five years now, starting out as a care worker myself. I joined Highgate Home Care in 2015 and have seen incredible growth over this time. We are rated as GOOD in all domains by the Care Quality Commission and have also been awarded a Top Ten company award for the Yorkshire and Humberside region by homecare.co.uk where we currently have a rating of 9.5!
What inspired you to start your own business?
When I had passed forty, I decided I wanted to give back to my local community and the avenue I chose was care work. I took to it like a duck to water and gradually over the years progressed to my current position of Registered Manager. I do not own the business but have managed it for the past ten years. We currently provide around 1750 hours weekly across the East Riding and North Yorkshire with staff teams in Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington, Hornsea, Driffield, Beverley, Cottingham, Willerby, Anlaby and Hessle.
Why should our clients choose you?
Our staff all believe in our Dignity Promise, where we have embedded the following. 'To care for those who once cared for us, is the highest of honours'. We will always go the extra mile to ensure our customers are cared for in an empathetic, caring manner and that they remain safe in their own homes. We also use a customer portal, where once access is agreed; customers and family members can log on to see who has been and what notes they have left showing how that person has been at each visit, and that where required, medication has been administered correctly.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Due to the nature of community care, we are unable to provide our service online.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
During the pandemic we ensured that all our staff were supplied with appropriate P.P.E. and regular training updates in infection prevention and control.
