What do you love most about your job?
I have a passion for creating inspiring spaces and comfortable hoes. After many years working in the industry I have specialist interest on residential and low-energy residential. On every project I deliver a passion for high quality architecture alongside a keen focus on the needs of both the client and end-users.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After many years working on award winning housing projects for an AJ100 practice, I rose to management of that business and was responsible for both large teams and projects. Since then I have return to Scotland to raise my family, at which point I established h | ARCHITECTstudio to pursue both his passion for residential architecture and the desire to make high quality design accessible to more people.

Concept and Feasibility
At h | ARCHITECTstudio, we recognise that the initial stages of any project are critical. A thoughtfully crafted Brief lays the foundation for successful outcomes. We assist in clarifying your vision and goals, exploring various possibilities, and generating options that best meet your needs. This collaborative process ensures that you have a comprehensive understanding of your project, enabling you to make informed decisions from the outset. Our approach focuses on maximising the potential of your chosen site or building, ultimately guiding the project toward a successful realisation. Through careful analysis and creative exploration, we set the groundwork for a structured and effective design journey.
Planning applications
Once a clear plan is developed and approved with our client, we produce comprehensive drawings of the project. Where appropriate, we will undertake pre-application consultation with the local authority to give your project the best chance of approval. This ensures that all aspects of the design meet regulatory standards and local guidelines, ultimately streamlining the approval process and minimising potential delays. Our commitment is to facilitate effective communication between all stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances project success.
Building Warrant / Building Control
After securing successful planning approval, we prepare an extensive set of drawings and specifications to submit for a Building Warrant with the Local Authority, or approved inspectors in England. This comprehensive package addresses the technical aspects of the project, encompassing structural integrity, thermal performance, fire safety, and other essential considerations to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Passive House Designer
As a Certified Passive House Designer, my focus lies in creating precise thermal models that form the backbone of effective design. This proficiency enables me to craft project designs that align with the rigorous performance standards established by the Passivhaus Trust. I extend my consulting services across a range of projects, dedicated to promoting sustainable building practices. By integrating these methods, I aim to enhance energy efficiency while ensuring a comfortable indoor environment, ultimately contributing to environmentally responsible architecture.
