Guy is a brilliant musician, and inspirational teacher. I came to Guy as a complete beginner to guitar, and quickly gained the confidence to play at open mic nights, attend week-long folk festivals and have tunes played on BBC Introducing. I could not identify a finer teacher and mentor. Thanks, Guy! More...

Guy has been and patiently and expertly teaching me to play electric guitar for a few years now. His approach to teaching and his personality suit me very well and I'm sure he individually tailors his method to each student rather than rigidly following a syllabus. Tuition times and lesson durations are flexible and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Guy, whatever your standard or preferred type of stringed instrument. He's an all round 'good Guy'! Guy is a 'great guy'! His support, encouragement, huge knowledge and experience has made my banjo journey of just 4 months a real pleasure. We also have a lot of laughs and cups of tea in the process. The encouragement is key to maintaining motivation, and learning from a professional such as Guy is a real privilege. I can highly recommend Guy as a tutor for any age of would-be musician. His passion for music and the instruments is clear and this transfers to the student. Thanks Guy. More...

I purchased a Banjo in 2017. I have no previous experience of playing a musical instrument. After scanning the Internet I found Guy, I made contact and following my initial lesson with him, came to the conclusion that not only was Guy a very nice friendly individual he also possessed fantastic enthusiasm and a method of teaching second to none, he is very inspiring. Thanks to Guy I have come on leaps and bounds and its all down to his tuition and genuine support. My lessons are definitely good value for money. Guy is still my Tutor, he amazes me with the knowledge and patience he displays, all fantastic qualities for a Teacher. Guy provides an excellent service. I have absolutely no hesitation recommending him and personally using his services in the future. More...

I've been working with Guy for more than three years, playing 5 string banjo and who knows, I may be learning from him three years from now. It's great learning from him. Not only does he know his stuff and makes his teaching personal to your needs, but he also has a way to make you feel successful even when you are struggling. I always feel better about my playing and totally buzzed when I leave than when I got to his studio. He recognizes my learning style and what I want to accomplish, then builds his teaching around that.If you are looking for a guitar / banjo teacher (and yes, he also plays Mandolin and Ukulele) I'd say spend some time with Guy and you will feel it is one of your best investments.Mike More...

I started to learn the banjo with Guy as a complete novice over two years ago and have made great progress in that time. Guy is a teacher of great experience at all levels and seems to have infinite patience. He has taught me at my pace often with different techniques. I learnt many new tunes and also some old familiar favourites. He is happy to repeat practice as often as required and will also provide support outside lesson time. More...

I decided that I wanted to learn to play the banjo as a retirement hobby. Guy was recommended to me by a local music teacher and I gave him a ring. He recommended a suitable banjo to purchase and I started taking lessons with him. This was four years ago and we are still going strong. Guy is an excellent musician and this, coupled with very good interpersonal skills, makes him a superb tutor. Ok so I’ve put in plenty of practice but he has brought me to a standard of playing that I wouldn’t have dreamt of four years ago. I’ve already recommended him to others and I wouldn’t hesitate to do so again More...

What do you love most about your job?
Music has always been my first love and it gives me a lot of pleasure to help to bring the joy of playing music to others.
They say a man who does what he loves for a living need never work another day in his life. Well I certainly enjoy my job and wouldn't change it for anything.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I wanted to do what I do best in life and what I love the most.
Why should our clients choose you?
I genuinely want people to learn to play and do everything I can to make sure my clients get the best out the time spent with me.
Flatpick Guitar Techniques
This is the method of using a plectrum (flatpick) used by Country and Bluegrass musicians. It is a disciplined method enabling you to play quickly and accurately.
It's easy to learn and will greatly enhance your use of a pick not to mention rhythm and speed.
Three Finger Style Finger Picking
This involves the use of thumb, index and middle fingers. A versatile style of picking used in ragtime, blues, country and many other styles.
Bluegrass Banjo (Scruggs Style)
I am an expert in teaching 3 finger style banjo, that is the use of thumb, index and middle finger. This is the style that most people want to learn and was epitomised by the tune Duelling Banjos.
It is also far more than that and can be used to play many different styles. I can also take you further to the realms of melodic and single string banjo.
