We undertook a garage conversion (to a bedroom with en-suite shower room) in March 2020. The work took longer than expected because of the first Covid-19 lockdown which had an impact on availability of materials and tradesmen. How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Almost any garage can be converted into a room of some sort.
Garages attached to a house offers more scope to add additional living space but detached garages can also be made into usable spaces as well.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Briefly, the process starts with removing the old door and any unnecessary fixtures and fittings. Making ban opening to the house, if required.
We then, usually, build a wall with a window and or door where the old garage door was.
The next stage is to bring in the plumbers and electricians to first fix before we insulate the floor, wall and ceiling as required. We then usually plasterboard the walls and ceilings before painting and decorating.
Then we will call the plumbers sentinel fix eg radiators and shower room/bathroom or kitchen depending on the nature of the project. and electricians to second fix eg install lighting, sockets and switches.

I love transforming customers home into beautiful rooms and making the customer’s vision into reality. It gives me great satisfaction.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always been interested in running a business. I see it as a way of making a difference.

We usually need to see the Propety first hand because of the nature of construction.
We can, if need be, give an assessment using photos but it is not ideal.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We follow the government guidelines and we brief our tradesmen before and during the works.
We are sensitive to people’s feeling around covid and have adapted our working practices for that reason.
