Mental health problems might actually be more common than you think. One in four of us will be affected by mental illness in any year. The effects are as real as a broken arm, even though there isn’t a sling or plaster cast to show for it.

Mental Health problems are as varied and numerous as people are and can include: Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, OCD, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders and Addiction.

Most people do their very best to support a friend or loved one who may deal with mental health issues, but there comes a time for many people when more professional, even residential, care is the only option. This is where Care Horizon’s experience and expertise can help.

Our services, ranging from full residential care to outreach services such as supported living and domiciliary care, enable us to help many different people with many degrees of mental health issue.

All our staff are extremely professional and are trained in an on-going fashion, which equips them with the skills required to knowledgeable of, as well as compassionate towards, any issues which our service users may face.

At Care Horizons, we provide a bespoke support package for every individual.

For too long, people with learning disabilities have been afforded services based on a subjective interpretation of what we think they need, resulting in many being forced to live within a service environment that does not reflect their hopes for the future.

This is especially so where individuals have a severe learning disability and attendant intensive support needs or a moderate learning disability and difficult, sometimes anti-social, behaviour.

We offer our service users the opportunity to live with like-minded individuals and enjoy the company and support of staff with a wide range of skills, in a typical home environment based in the community, but offering high levels of support in a flexible manner.

With access to activities that are appropriate to the individual’s needs and requirements, our residents are able to enjoy wider community resources, like any other person. This enables them to be given given every opportunity to achieve their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.

Autism is known as a complex developmental disability. Experts believe that Autism presents itself during the first three years of a person’s life. The condition is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person’s communication and social interaction skills.

No two people with autism will have exactly the same symptoms. As well as experiencing varying combinations of symptoms, some people will have mild symptoms while others will have severe ones.

Asperger syndrome is a form of autism, which is a lifelong disability that affects how a person makes sense of the world, processes information and relates to other people.

Autism is often described as a ‘spectrum disorder’ because the condition affects people in many different ways and to varying degrees.

As soon as we meet a person we make judgements about them. From their facial expression, tone of voice and body language we can usually tell whether they are happy, angry or sad and respond accordingly.

People with Asperger syndrome can find it harder to read the signals that most of us take for granted. This means they find it more difficult to communicate and interact with others which can lead to high levels of anxiety and confusion.

Care Horizons’ highly experienced team are highly trained in identifying and caring for people living with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. Many of our service users deal daily with varying levels of these conditions and the care plan we produce reflects the level of support they require as an individual.

When a person is first referred to, or approaches Care Horizons, we meet in person with all potential new clients, to ensure we are the right fit as a company for the client.
