Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Examine if the roof is a traditional frame construction or made up of trusses. Traditional frames are generally easier to convert.
Ensure that the existing ceiling joists can support the additional weight of a loft conversion. If not, reinforcement might be necessary.
A minimum height of 2.2 meters (approximately 7 feet 3 inches) is often recommended from the base to the apex before any work is done. This ensures adequate headspace once the conversion is completed.
Determine if a staircase has ample space to provide safe and convenient access. Consider where the stairs could be located on the lower floor as well.
