Fantastic service.Booked a few weeks before and recived a text from driver to confirm and give number in case any problems etc. Driver arrived early due to bad traffic and was told no rush as he would wait. Cases were loaded with care and so to was wheelchair for disabled daughter. Drive to the airport was great. Highly recommend as great service competitive price and most of all a comfy journey. I have been really pleased with the service from Allan MacDougall of Activ Web Design. He met me at my house in the evening, which fitted around my job. Thankfully, he didn’t talk in technological jargon and he made comparisons with things I already know. He designed and set up my website, designed my logo and my business cards. It was actually very nice to get it all from the same person because then it’s a lot more consistent and I didn’t have to hunt around. Also, many designers charge hourly and you can never tell how much it will cost, whereas with Allan it’s a fixed price. As a start-up, I had a limited and final budget, so the fixed price gave me peace of mind. More importantly, in a way, is customer service. I am an email person and this really worked for me as Allan always responded promptly when I had any questions or requests, and nothing was too much trouble. I am now setting up a Facebook business page which Allan will also do as he has a lot of knowledge in this area. He was recommended to me by my accountant (who knows him from a networking group) and by the person I used for help with HR (who’s a customer of Allan). A great website is one that works for your business. Whilst having a website that looks good is important, if it is never found by the search engines, it is unlikely to bring you much business.
More visitors now use mobile devices rather than pc/laptops to search the Internet and view websites. Therefore it is important to ensure your website looks good on these mobile devices and has been designed with these devices in mind to ensure a good user experience.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
It does depend on the type of business, however I would typically ask the following
What does your business do?
What are your main aims for your site?
What makes your company different?
Who are your main competitors?
Who are your typical customers?
What features do you want on your site?
What page 'types' would you like?
Are there existing sites or particular styles that you like?
What do you want visitors to do when they land on your site?
What are the key search phrases you would like your site to be found for?
What are your timescales?
Describe your creative process.
Understanding the clients requirements and objectives is key as this then drives the design and determines the functionality required. Web design is an iterative process and clients will have access to the development site to see how the design is progressing and enables them to contribute in the creative process.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Outline content that describes their business and services. Any images required for the site, however we are able to purchase stock images on behalf of client if required. Content can be created for a client as we have copywriters, however this is an extra charge.
What do you love most about your job?
The constant change in technology keeps things very interesting and ensures you are always learning, which has to be a good thing. I also love dealing with people and helping them and their business to succeed.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always wanted the freedom to run my own business and having ‘served my time’ working for organisations in the corporate world, I decided to utilise my knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit and start my own company.

Yes all of our services can be done remotely, although we do like to meet local clients in person. For remote clients, we can arrange a video call if required.

Meetings have been done via Zoom rather than in person.
