The room was well kept, my partner myself and our baby really enjoyed the stay we had. Lovely, helpful, enthusiastic, kind, caring and attentive staff. We originally booked for two night and extended our stay for a further two nights. Are thoughts as soon as we entered oh posh which it is but although it’s posh the staff are so lovely and cater to your needs with a lovely calm caring attitude. We are very please with the outcome of our stay and will definitely be using this hotel again. It’s bang in the centre of all the shops and pleanty of activists to do around the area. Very pleased. We finally found the pub after driving past car park using sat nav about 4 times . The car park is on the road alongside the river, it is painted in cream and red and has sign to say Rose and crown carpark , it has a big archway Over a. .. this is the carpark at the back of hotel area. |We checked in, only to be told that the chef was on holiday and we weren’t able to get the 4 course meal we had booked and paid for through secret escapes. The receptionist was very apologetic and sent up a full size bottle of Prosecco rather than mini one as in our booking deal. But it meant we then had to find alternative food for evening.|The room was amazing, it was old with uneven floorboards and bare walls, just spectacular. The bed was huge with sofa at end of bed, a dressing table and a writing table. The bathroom was much more up to date with large shower and free standing bath, lovely beams on ceiling, good quality towels and complimentary bath gels, shampoo and body lotion. |Breakfast the next morning was from 8-10am. It was very quiet and you order your cooked breakfast with waitress. I asked if there was a vegetarian option but she said I could order anything I wanted from cooked menu, so I had mushrooms, tomatoes, hash brown, baked beans and an egg ... hubby had full English.|We had late check out but the housekeeper knocked on door about 10:45 and asked if we were checking out that day because she wanted to clean. The staff didn’t seem to have been told what our booking included.. like late check out and breakfast... not to mention 4 course dinner . I loved the hotel for its quirkiness but I’m not sure I would re visit Wisbech. More...

Really love this hotel. It's like a large crooked house due to parts of it being over 400 years old. Crooked stairs, sloping floors. It's really quirky and we love it. It's a shame it's in the centre of Wisbech so you will see and hear noisy locals! However, the breakfast is good and the staff are all lovely. Bed is comfortable and shower is good. Big white fluffy towels too. We had a wonderful meal one evening in their pretty restaurant and Mario was very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely return. More...

We cannot thank Mario and James enough for such a welcoming and pleasant experience, very kind and helpful and also a great laugh. Me and my girlfriend often have little get aways but this one we both agreed has been an all round great stay. The beds are really comfortable, our room was cleaned and refreshed upon returning from a day out, which brings me to my next point of how well situated the hotel is to nearby places to visit, it's out of the way but not too far from nice places to go and see. We are from Brighton and this was worth the 3 hour drive up here. ||Again many thanks to Mario and James ||- Mac & Rachael x More...

Location of the hotel and room price was the first attraction to book double room in this hotel. Can't fault the service. Room was big and had plenty of space . Booked the rose and crown for afternoon tea for a 65th Birthday Party for 25 people, we were very happy with everything the staff were very attentive and anything we asked for they were happy to supply, tea and coffee flowing all afternoon, the Sandwiches and cake were delicious and any leftovers were bagged up and taken home. Very good value for money.

We came all the way from London using a Secret Escape deal. Staff were very friendly, with a warm welcome at check-in: Louise and Brittany in particularly and a mini little bottle of vino Spumante was in the room. Dinner was lovely, unfortunately my cold didn't let me taste the food. We had salmon on the first day and it was gorgeous, perfectly cooked and generous portions. Starters and deserts were excellent too in a lovely old restaurant.|Lounge area dating back to 1435 very pleasant. We enjoyed a couple more drinks there in a nice relaxing atmosphere.|The morning breakfast was also really nice and hot ; all perfectly cooked and fresh.||Our room was clean, tidy and nice - it lived up to the price paid and had all we needed. Shower was pleasant but less powerful but still good.||We found the bed particularly comfortable, but that's arguably a personal preference; different people like different mattresses.||We would have preferred curtains to the blinds, but they were OK.||We were woken by noise a couple of times - our room backed on to storage cupboards which the staff must have been using early in the morning. |Definitely we can recommend this little diamond if you wish to escape from a busy City like London. Went to the Rose and Crown under Secret Escapes for a 1 night stay. We had a nice room with a 4 poster bed which was very comfortable. Nice bathroom with a big shower but unfortunately it wasn't very powerful at all. The tea tray wasn't overly stocked as only had a couple of teabags and plastic spoons! We had an evening meal at the hotel which was fantastic, so tasty and well cooked. The homemade honeycomb cheesecake was absolutely delicious and compliments to the chef! The breakfast wasn't quite up to the same standard but was ok. We have visited The Rose and Crown on our many visits to Wisbech over the years and have seen it alter from a rather run down pub on our first visit and seen the improvements to the building over this period. It is a beautiful and historic building which is gradually being brought back to its former glory. Anyone who takes over an old house knows that it takes time and money to update and restore it. How many of the people staying here who have complained live in pristine modern newly built houses!! We visited the Rose and Crown on our way back from Sheringham and were impressed with the changes that had been made since our last visit. We popped in for the carvery, had a joke with the chef, found the meats on offer well cooked and tasty and the vegetables fresh. We spent an enjoyable night in the hotel. Room was OK, cold when we arrived but soon warmed up when we put the radiator on. Bathroom was adequate. ||||||I must admit the bed did look like it had been slept in, but after a sniff test we decided it hadn’t! ||||||Breakfast was nice - I rang to confirm if it was a continental breakfast as advertised - and was pleasantly surprised when they said it is both full English and Continental. ||||Bar prices were very expensive. Rose and Crown Hotel in the middle of Wisbech has a most convenient position and also now a new chef whose cooking is very good. Carvery served every day is one of the best, the meats and especially turkey being superbly tender. All the accommodation is comfortable and the staff, as I always find them, very charming. One of the best places from both the dining point of view at a very reasonable price and the quality of the food, and, so important, the helpfulness of staff. More...

We stayed here for 1 night and it was pretty good, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean, nice friendly staff always willing to help and the breakfast was really nice. We did have a few problems tho, first one was the shower was just a trickle and stone cold even after running it for about 5 mins, so we had to have a bath which came good, we had bedside lamps but didn't work the one on the left was all burnt out inside and the other just didn't work, but the biggest niggle was the mega loud music being played early hours it woke us about 0345 and it stopped about 0420 I think it was coming from above the pizza shop directly opposite, it was ridiculous . Otherwise we enjoyed our stay More...

A wonderful weekend. We booked the rose and crown for a 2 night stay including breakfast on both days and a meal on our first night. My wife and I had lunch at the Rose & Crown on May 15 2018 to celebrate my birthday. They do an excellent Carvery from 12 to 3pm with beef, turkey, ham and all the trimmings all for a reasonable £6. 99. Large portions all cooked to perfection. The Rose & Crown is now under new management and the dinning area has been completely refurbished with a bar. I can thoroughly recommend eating there. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We booked a table for three at this select and peaceful spot in the middle of Wisbech town centre. It was so excellent that we have returned regularly to enjoy the wide choice of menu as well as the excellent service and delicious, top class food. Whilst there we explored the other facilities and talked to guests at the hotel as well as to the many delighted diners. Vegetarian choices were not only first-class but enormous portions which suited my husband. I had the carvery as did another friend and it was fabulous, hot and delicious. A couple of nights stay again using the wowcher/groupon process with value in mind. These offers are a godsend to supplementing hotel usage. Not too far off the beaten track but with a car The Fens, Kings Lynn, Ely, Cambridge & Bury St Edmonds in easy reach. The hotel wasn't very full regarding tourists but the facilities were what to expect of a hotel of this size. Ongoing maintenance is always an issue which become more of a niggle rather than drastic. The wall paper was lifting down many edges in our room, you focused on it when entering or lying in bed. A tube of border glue would fix it in a jif. The bedroom had a fusty smell as the upstairs function room toilets backed on to it as you came down the corridor. B&M's cheap bleach whole bottle every now & then would solve it & an automated air freshener placed in the toilets would minimise the smell travelling, very simple fix. The carvery was well worth the money & the Italian manager a joy as the rest of the staff so you can't go wrong with the Rose & Crown for a little 1 or 2 night packages with food included short break. Tired in places but quaint old charm compensates those odd blemishes. More...

We stayed at the Rose and Crown for two nights while attending a wedding in a nearby village. The directions given by the hotel via their email meant we could find the hotel easily and there was adequate off-road parking. We entered through the entrance off the car park and were directed to reception by a member of staff who noticed we didn’t know where to go. The gentleman at reception gave us a warm welcome and explained all we needed to know. Our room was up the stairs which are over 400 years old and so very wonky! This added to the experience, being in such a quirky, old building where the door frames are squint and floors undulating, a sign of the building’s age rather than disrepair. Our room was great, plenty of hanging space for our clothes, room to move around while getting ready for a wedding and the bed was comfortable and clean. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room but we didn’t use them as we don’t drink tea or coffee. It was very warm in the room but the temperature outside was nearing 30 degrees so this was to be expected. We were able to open the sash window right up so just left it open all the time. The bathroom was clean and well-presented. We had some difficulty with the shower, it was only lukewarm on the first morning which wasn’t too bad given it was a hot day, but the next day it was way too hot and I couldn’t get it any cooler so I just had a very quick shower without washing my hair. We didn’t report this as it wasn’t a huge issue for us at the time. Breakfast was simple but tasty, we had cereal and a cooked full English breakfast. We didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evening as we had other plans but the carvery looked nice. The courtyard is nice to sit in for a drink. The night porter was very helpful, letting us in when we returned from the wedding after midnight, the number for him was readily available. There is also free WiFi which was useful also. We would definitely stay here again and would like to thank the staff for a pleasant stay in a quirky, historical hotel. More...

What an enjoyable stay in a beautiful old building. Everywhere we looked just full of history. Imagine the time around 1461, when the Swan hotel room (earliest recorded name for this hotel) was first opened, the America wasn't even discovered then. Sitting bang right in the centre of Wisbech town.No unnecessary traffic noise or fuming pollution, just liveliness and busy atmosphere surrounding the hotel. That's the fun of being situated on the Market Place/ High street.Every member of staff was very pleasant and extremely helpful. We had a lovely meal with two of our friends.
The food was of a good standard and served by polite young man. Reasonably priced rooms. Will definitively return again and look forward to staying at the hotel.

We've just returned from a wonderful stay at this lovely old hotel: such a beautiful old building, so full of history and tastefully renovated to provide modern amenities. It would be unfair to single out any one member of staff because they were all so helpful, friendly and willing to help - nothing was too much trouble. On arrival we were welcomed at Reception and informed that we had been upgraded to the amazing Octavia Suite which was quite stunning - this was such a kind gesture and completely unexpected. There are several different public areas in which to relax comfortably with books and magazines provided to while away the time over coffee or a drink. The restaurant menu offered great value for money and the breakfasts, in particular, were freshly cooked and really delicious. There is a spacious car park at the rear of the property which is easily accessed from the Quay-side road. More...

But I must confess we were delighted with our decision. The food was all very nice, good portions and reasonably priced and served by a very attentive waitress. Arrived on 24/08 and stayed for 2 nights.||||We arrived mid afternoon and were greeted by a pleasant lady on the reception, who asked if we managed to find the hotel okay and generally made us feel welcomed. Not sure on her name unfortunately but many thanks to her for starting our stay on a good note. ||||The hotel itself is a listed building so there are some signs of wear to it, but overall the place was spotlessly clean and inviting in all areas. The stairs are rather old as you could guess with a listed building, so beware, they are wonky in places, interesting after a few drinks!||||We stayed in room 202 which was a large double room with a Four Poster bed. We were even treated to some chocolates and bubbles on arrival, a very nice touch as this was our "Minimoon" to celebrate our wedding the previous week. It was also my Wife's birthday on the day we arrived so a very happy lady indeed! The room was spotless top to bottom, with a good amount of room to walk around in, and the bathroom was very large, again spotless. They also provided a blanket for my wife when she mentioned she was a little chilly, which helped massively so thank you.||||One pointer which we would have expected normally was the fact that we didn't have any housekeeping service whilst we were there. A little disappointing as if we had received this our score would have been top marks. Still, our bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet, to say how old the building is, we slept like a baby both nights!||||On to the food. I have never enjoyed a carvery as much as i did during this stay. Very reasonably priced and excellent quality. We also had the chicken burger on our second night there, so very glad we did. Again lovely food, the burger was incredible, and the puddings we had were amazing. We had a cooked breakfast on both mornings and each time they were brilliant. A little slow on the waiting service on our second morning there, but the hotel was fully booked so understandably they were busier than usual.||||A special mention has to go to the waitress who looked after us in the evenings and mornings for breakfast, again unfortunately don't know her name but thank you for looking after us. And of course we have to thank the young Italian chap who i believe was hospitality manager. His name is Mario and his humour kept us laughing the whole time we were there. Service with a smile every time we saw him and always left feeling happier, so thank you Mario.||||Overall a very pleasant stay, would definitely recommend and may well be back soon. ||||Many thanks from the Newly Weds, Mr & Mrs Taylor. Lovely place , I only stayed one night as I was attending the annual Dirtquake event at the Adrian Flux Arena in Kings Lynn & really didn't fancy camping in a field at my age & associated aches & pains , the beds were really comfortable & just what I needed after being at a motorcycle race all day , I didn't try the evening menu deciding to venture out for a curry instead , but the breakfast was excellent & the 2 young ladies serving were refreshingly professional and a credit to the establishment , we have family in Swaffham nearby & would defiantly use this place again when we stay over , the old plumbing meant the showers to ages to warm up but hey I'd rather the quirky beauty of a 400 year old place with its beautiful wonky stairs & floors than a sterile new hotel any day , the Television in room 316 was impossible to watch as it kept pixelating & freezing so I had the radio on instead which was also a refreshing change , Thankyou for a lovely relaxing but all to brief visit I'll defiantly be back

What a lovely little find. Was lucky enough to get one of the Klfm vouchers for afternoon tea and we were thoroughly spoilt. I booked 2 double bedrooms at the Rose & Crown via Hotel.com on my phone from the middle of a field near Terrington, at the end of a long day of tiring field-work basing the booking on price, proximity and reviews. We had two large vans with kit to sort overnight (so needed a carpark to park, unpack and spread stuff over), somewhere decent to sleep, ideally to eat and to provide breakfast. All this with my Canadian boss and his wife looking over my shoulder saying...."Well, where are we staying...?)||||Forty minutes later, we anxiously pulled into the vast car park (through the old coaching arch)...and I breathed a sigh of relief. The booking existed, we had rooms assigned and payment had already been taken . The hotel was everything we needed. Clean, atmospheric and with bags of character for our Canadian visitors. So, let's address some of the less complimentary reviews...... Late's face it, the hotel is 400 years old, the central staircase is like something out of a fun-fair crazy house, but that's good! Ok, the rooms are not curves and shiny surfaces like some PremierTravelodgeHolidayInn, but they were clean and fresh. OK, the views from the room are of adjacent buildings, roofs and alleys, but 300 years ago that was preferable to the open sewer in the street below. You can actually feel the history, almost like a drunken pirate is about to burst through the door of the en suite!||||After a brief wander around the city centre, we ended up in the restaurant. The menu wasn't extensive, but there was choice enough for everyone, even my fussy 15 year old son who was helping with the field work during the school holiday. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was good and portions a decent size. Although the restaurant wasn't by any means full (it was a Monday evening) there was a nice, relaxed atmosphere.||||Next morning, the breakfast was more than adequate and set us up for the day. We had a great stay and I would not hesitate to book again should I need to stay in or around Wisbech.||||Just to mark a special effort, upon leaving, I somehow misplaced my VAT receipt for the two rooms when it came to my expenses. A month later, I emailed the info@ email address for the hotel to see if it was possible to get a copy off the payment system or even a hand-written receipt. Within 2 hours, Anna Maria on Reception had kindly generated two VAT receipts which were in my email inbox the next morning when I checked email. Thanks so much Anna Maria! More...

Visited a couple of weeks ago whilst visiting the area. This is a very old coaching inn. Lots of history and I loved it. The Staircase is quirky and no lifts but all added to the charm. We had dinner one night and the food was as good as anything I have had in a hotel. I couldn't understand why the restaurant was empty - if this were in London it would be full every night. Good prices too. I want to go back. More...

Slightly old fashioned style hotel that you find in the centre of old market towns. In it's day it was probably the place to stay, but competition from newer rivals and dwindling incomes makes it difficult to fund the upkeep of such large buildings, resulting in slightly neglected interiors and parts of the building needing a bit of TLC. ||||The room was a good size, clean and comfortable, but as with the building, in need of slight modernisation. Fantastic shower and bathroom though, so clearly money is being spent when available.||||Great staff, really friendly and welcoming and proud to work in this traditional hotel. ||||Dinner was included as a part of the package, and it was really good quality. Service in both the bar and restaurant was good, and always with a smile.||||Don't let my slightly negative comments about the building detract from a really nice place to stay. I would not hesitate to return. More...

I stayed two nights with my wife while exploring the fascinating history of the town (with a trip to Kings Lynn too). The location is perfect and the frontage is impressively typical of the main hotel in an old market town. Inside, the public areas and restaurant are a mixture of sympathetic preservation and cheapish unpretentious modern furnishings and decor, probably reflecting the fact that it has more weekday working customers than holiday families or tourists. Service was friendly and welcoming and our room was quiet, clean and comfortable with adequate space although quite a trek to the back of an upper floor via stairs and corridoors. Breakfast and 2 evening meals were excellent - there didn't seem to be any decent alternatives nearby. Good value, fine old building, a very pleasant stay and we would come again. More...

Thanks Jake, and the lovely waitress in the restaurant who remembered us from other visits and made sure my husband who has an eating disorder due to a big operation was given portions he could deal with, forgot to ask your name but you know who you are, thankyou so much. Hope to see you all again soon More...

On what should have been a really sad afternoon, the charming Irish lady and her wonderful staff transformed the day with their ability to turn the customers wishes into reality. ||Beautifully organised wake followed by an impromptu evening meal in the atmospheric `orangerie` Nothing was too much trouble, seats and tables were rearranged at the drop of a hat and the service was second too none.||If you you live near Wisbech and are are have a function.....Look no further than here.||||Thank you Rose and Crown, Simply the best More...

Lovely cream tea, very pleasant staff, shame it closes at 3 pm as I would have thought that's the time of day people would want afternoon tea.

We arrived quite late on Saturday but still managed to get the last space in the car park. There was a wedding going on which didn't cause a problem to us at all ! Our room was at the front but we didn't experience any noise problems, however our window didn't open, which may cause you a problem if you overheat ! There was only one used towel in the room which the reception staff sorted out immediately. The breakfast was satisfactory. More...

We recently stayed for a short break at The Rose & Crown and found the staff very friendly & helpful. A lovely hotel with lots of history, would love to return to visit the cellars and tunnels when they are opened. A great evening meal followed by good night's sleep in comfortable beds, then full English breakfast in the morning. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will return. It's a shame there are still poor reviews from when the previous owners were there.Only look at the reviews from when the new owners took over -I believe summer 2012. I met Jim and his wife Rose at a business meeting in Wisbech and heard they had completely renovated this very old and historic hotel. I take clients there regularly for coffee and also for lunch from their excellent restaurant. It has my full recommendation. More...

Having cruised the wet and wintry streets of Wisbech looking for a place to stay, we happened upon the Rose and Crown on a phone search. It was difficult to find their car park entrance, through the old coaching inn's archway to what had been the stableyard and barns serving the 18th. century Georgian traveller , but the welcome more than made up for that. The main building has benefited from a complete refurbishment, without losing the essential character of the original 15th.century building, which appealed to our love of slightly quirky old buildings with personality. This included the "Burglar's Step" on the meandering original staircase, which ambushed us on that way up to a very cosy and comfortable double-room. The hotel staff were helpful without being intrusive, from reception through to the very bright girl waitresses, who guided us through the light evening meal menu, and served an excellent breakfast in the converted stables. Mine host was also available, affable, and understandably pleased with the progress to date of his project. His efforts are worthy of support, and we were impressed enough to stay an unplanned second night. By then we knew how to find the car park!! More...
