Coming out of lock down I was looking for a guitar teacher that was open to what I wanted to achieve during my lessons. Supplying Steve with a long list of songs I wanted to learn he was able to judge my ability and now works each lesson around what I like and similar songs. My grandaughter has been enjoying ukulele and guitar lessons with Steve for over a year now, and we have been amazed at her progress and her love of music which has been enforced. Khan has been learning guitar with Steve and he thoroughly enjoys it. He finds him very easy to talk to and they have some funny moments together, which makes guitar more enjoyable. Even though he stopped playing for a while when the first lockdown was introduced, khan has picked the guitar up again and has since done his grade 1 and now working for grade 2. Steve is such a great teacher. He is very kind and patient and you never feel rushed or judged. He is full of smiles and enthusiasm and really takes time to put you at ease when learning new things (when you might be feeling a little scared playing unfamiliar things in front of someone). There are many times when my fingers just won’t do what I want them to do and he will just tell me to take a deep breath, break things down and we’ll play things a section at a time until it starts to feel more natural. Sometimes the lesson can end up playing the same chord over and over again but yet it never feels like lost time. We have been having our lessons via remote means (skype) during these difficult times but I really don’t feel like I’ve ‘lost out’ on anything. I had some basic experience in playing guitar but pretty much only ‘strummed’ but Steve has shown me so much in such a short period of time (still lots of perfecting required!!) that I am blown away with what we’ve been able to achieve. At the start of the Coronavirus lockdown, I thought my new found love of playing the guitar would have to go on ice. But thanks to Steve’s ingenuity I have not missed a single lesson, as throughout the last year we have held our regular sessions on Skype which has proved very effective. I have been taking acoustic guitar lessons with Stephen since May 2019. As a very late starter ( I am in my late 50’s) progress has been slow but, thanks to Stephen’s experience, knowledge and extreme patience I am beginning to understand the rudiments of music theory, have mastered a good number of chords and I can play a few simple tunes. Stephen has been a model of patience with me. At 76, it's taking me longer to pick up the basics but with daily practice of the lessons I sense a modicum of instinctive fretting beginning to blossom!
