Like every writer, I love the magic of words.
When I work on a piece - whether it's a press release or a full website - I put time and effort into really understanding the company, the needs and fears of its customers, the services or products it provides, and how it links into the world around it. I ask the right questions to work out exactly what each individual client and their target audience needs from me.
When you understand the emotional side of a topic - what it means to people, why they need this, how it affects them - you can write something which perfectly appeals to its intended audience and gets the right attention.
I know when a piece is finished because the writing starts to 'glow' - it creates a feeling in the reader. My favourite part of my job is once all the hard work is complete, when I send a glowing text back to my client and hear that they're delighted with it - and that it's getting great results!

As well as being a rather good writer, I'm a very curious person and I get interested in lots of things! Freelancing enables me to research and write about so many subjects.
In my previous projects I've found myself digging into all sorts of topics, from the history of the Essex canals to the best ways to invest a small inheritance, from archery techniques to wedding favours, from the nuanced landscape of homelessness in the UK to the incredible variety of small festivals springing up across Europe. Every day is different and interesting - and all this research means I'm becoming a dab hand at Trivial Pursuit!
