‘19 Certificate of Excellence

Hello, my name is Shirley and I am experienced award winning photographer having achieved distinctions: ARPS from the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and AFIAP in recognition of the number of images accepted into international exhibitions. I have also had two solo exhibitions, one in Bath, at the RPS headquarters and one in Letchworth. I am a lifestyle family photographer, 'Capturing the Moment' for families and creating memories that will last a lifetime. The photographs I create are not static images, the families interact, play and enjoy one another's company. I will pose groups in order to create the best images possible for you and to help those who feel a little nervous in front of the camera. This will be a fun experience, feedback from clients tells me the whole family enjoys the session, its a fun family time. My pricing of my package is simple, I call it the All Inclusive. It includes a 45 minutes session, creation of a beautiful gallery where you can view your images, with the option to download as many images as you wish and share or print as you would like, I guarantee 50 images. I do have optional extras you can purchase and there is the opportunity to have your images printed by a top class professional printing company, but only if you wish, no pressure or high pressured sales pitches!

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

Passion and vision. You have to see something you want to capture and have a vision of how the final image will look. Yes, of course knowledge and technical skills are important, however , without vision you will create technically perfect pictures with no soul, images that do not 'speak' to the viewer!

I learnt this many years ago when I was a guest at a wedding, of course I had my camera with me and I took a photograph at the start of the ceremony, one which the professional photographer had not captured. This image is the one the bride still has framed and means the most to her...why.. well certainly not because it was technically perfect, I was in an awkward position in appalling lighting conditions, however, the story behind the image evoked a response in the viewer and apparently still brings a tear to the brides eye, and many others who know the family.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Are there any particular concerns? I have had families with children who have autism and I have worked closely with the family to ensure the child is comfortable.
Are there any special relationships in your family you would like me to capture in an image.
What do you want to use your images for?
Do you and your family feel comfortable in front of the camera.

What do you love most about your job?

People, and capturing that special moment for them, it is such a privilege and something I never take for granted.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Images are prized by families, I see how my own family enjoys looking at photographs of previous generations and how much joy a photograph her great granddaughter brings to my own mother. I also love 'Capturing The Moment' there is something very special about creating a unique image. I love interacting with people and want to share my passion and create images which will become treasures and memories. Those special moments will not last for ever!

Why should our clients choose you?

I will listen to you, I will care about you and your shoot and I will never forget that you had a choice!
The package I offer is very simple, you get all images in your gallery, you will never have to choose between two images you love. This means you know how much the shoot will cost you, of course you can purchase 'add ons', have your images printed, presented in a beautiful box or a book if you wish, but there is no hard sell or expectation.

The number of photos that your photographer will take will depend on the type and duration of the photoshoot you book. You won’t see most of the photos either. This is because your photographer will take duplicate photos in case anyone blinks or looks away. They’ll then delete any photos that don’t come out quite right before showing you the final selection. A one-hour family photoshoot will typically generate between 30 and 60 finished photos.

What you choose to wear for your photoshoot is a personal choice. It’s important to choose an outfit that you feel confident in, as this will help to put you at ease during your photoshoot. Try to avoid busy patterns as these may blur on photos. If you’re having a family photoshoot, it’s a good idea to co-ordinate your outfits to ensure that you don’t clash with each other.

There are a few things that you can do to prepare your children for a photo shoot. Firstly, tell them about the photo shoot and help them to get excited. This will give the best chance of capturing smiles on camera. It’s also a good idea to make sure that the photo shoot doesn’t conflict with nap times and that your children eat, drink and go to the toilet before the photoshoot begins.
