It had to be stylish and modern, but also comfortable and suitable as a family home. Ben led the design team and helped manage our contractors, planning applications and building control. Every project is different, with its own challenges, by responding to you I avoid repetition which keeps each project interesting. I love sourcing retro and vintage pieces which aligns well with my sustainable values and I really enjoy designing bespoke cabinetry.
Having previously had a 20 year career in commercial photography I realised that I gained more satisfaction from renovating my houses than I got from my job. This inspired me to retrain and I gained a BA Hons at KLC School of Design where I focussed on sustainable design I feel there is a lack of sustainable practices in interior design and inspired by my own interest in sustainability my intention is to make good practice in interior design easier and to cut through the greenwashing that we so often experience. Through intrainteriors.com I have also set up a sustainable sourcing directory as a resource for consumers and other designers. I firmly believe that all interior designers now have a responsibility to consider the sustainability of all their projects and my intention is to promote this and make specifying in a socially and environmentally responsible way easier.
I personally believe that every interior designer has a responsibility to guide and educate their client in sustainability, a redesign offers valuable opportunities to upgrade things like insulation but most interior designers consider only the aesthetic. By taking a holistic approach a home or workplace can function more effectively and become healthier with a negligible effect on the budget.
