About

The Female Accountant was born out of COVID-19. Prior to this, founder, Emiley Phillips experienced workplace prejudice whilst working in what was a very stereotypical male orientated industry. Through the national lockdowns Emiley noticed how many women had gone on to see success in their own businesses and side hustles.

Hiring a great accountant is crucial for the success of any business because they do much more than just manage numbers. A skilled accountant ensures financial health, legal compliance, and strategic growth. Here’s why it matters:

1. Understanding Your Business: If your accountant doesn’t understand the specifics of your business, they can’t account for you correctly. Every industry has its own unique challenges and opportunities, and without this insight, you may miss out on valuable financial strategies and tax efficiencies.

2. Financial Accuracy: A great accountant ensures your books are accurate, preventing costly errors that could impact your business or lead to penalties.

3. Tax Efficiency: They make sure you're taking full advantage of all available tax breaks, reducing your tax burden while ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.

4. Time Savings: Managing finances takes time and expertise. A good accountant frees up your time so you can focus on growing your business rather than dealing with paperwork.

5. Business Growth: Accountants provide valuable insights and financial advice, helping you make informed decisions that boost profitability and sustainability.

6. Risk Management: A proactive accountant identifies potential risks early and suggests measures to safeguard your business.

7. Cash Flow Management: Proper cash flow management is essential for business health. A great accountant ensures you have the funds available to meet obligations and invest in your business’s future.

Ultimately, an accountant who truly understands your business becomes a vital partner in your success, ensuring both stability and growth.

What I love most about my job is the opportunity to save people money and be creative with financial solutions. It’s incredibly rewarding to help business owners, especially those who might feel overwhelmed by accounting, see how they can optimise their finances and save in ways they hadn’t thought possible. I also enjoy the creative aspect—finding tailored, innovative approaches that suit each client’s unique business needs. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about making a real difference in their financial wellbeing and helping them thrive.

The inspiration to start my own business came from my personal experiences working in a stereotypically male-dominated industry, where I witnessed firsthand the challenges women face in being heard and taken seriously, especially in leadership roles. During the national lockdowns, I noticed how many women were succeeding in their own businesses and side hustles, but I also saw a potential barrier: when these women sought accountancy help, they might not be treated with the respect and understanding they deserved.

I wanted to change that narrative. I was driven to create a business that empowers women (and men) by offering financial services without judgement. My goal was to break the stereotype of traditional accountants by creating a personal connection, offering clear, jargon-free advice, and supporting clients in not only managing their finances but understanding them. That passion for empowering others and helping businesses thrive is what inspired me to launch The Female Accountant.

Clients should choose The Female Accountant because we offer more than just typical accounting services—we bring a fresh, modern approach that’s focused on building strong relationships and truly understanding each client’s unique business. Here’s what sets us apart:

3. Focus on Empowerment: We’re passionate about helping clients not only manage their accounts but also understand the bigger financial picture. We empower you to make informed decisions that will grow your business.

4. Saving You Money: One of my favourite parts of the job is finding creative ways to save clients money. Whether it’s through tax efficiencies or better financial planning, we’re committed to helping you get the most out of your hard-earned income.

5. Approachable and Friendly* We pride ourselves on being approachable and making our clients feel comfortable. You’ll never feel like just another number—we build strong, lasting relationships with our clients.
