I started learning Japanese over Covid, (others took an easier route by baking banana bread or learning to knit) but after the world emerged again, my progress dwindled away as life slowly got back to normal. I found Teacher Jenny via Facebook and I have has a few lessons. I can honestly say she's a brilliant and patient teacher. She encourages, explains and corrects mistakes by explaining where I went wrong. Our lessons are mainly reading comprehension at the basic level of hiragana, katakana and Kanji and already I can see an improvement 😀 I highly recommend Jenny to anyone wishing to learn Japanese at any level and at any point in their journey. After nearly a year of self study and Duolingo I decided I wanted to get more serious and have someone to practice speech with. I have now been taking lessons with Jenny for a number of months. She makes it super easy with no judgment on learning pace. The resources are easy to use and she is always available to message if you have any questions outside of classes. I can't recommend highly enough. If you want to learn Japanese then Jenny should be your guide. More...

I’ve been studying Japanese with Jenny for a short time and am genuinely amazed at how quickly I’ve been able to start reading in Hiragana. Having a fellow native British tutor has made a huge difference compared to my previous experiences with native Japanese teachers — Jenny understands exactly how to explain things from an English learner’s perspective. I love being able to ask lots of questions and get clear comparisons between Japanese and English, which really helps everything click. I’ve found the lessons both enjoyable and highly effective, and I’m excited to keep learning. Also to add that she's patient and supportive when I've wandered off topic, so certainly can cater to neuro divergent students. More...

After using and not really learning much using apps like Duolingo I have been looking into getting Japanese lessons for a while now and never quite worked up to doing it. I was bought lessons for Christmas and I am couldn't be happier about it. Jenny was recommended by a friend who is also taking lessons and I can see why. She is very friendly and is good at tailoring the lessons to your level. She introduces things at a good pace and will reviews your learning at regualr intervals to make sure you have understood and not forgotten previous lessons. She uses fun and easy to remember images where possible to make it easier to learn. She obviously has a deep understanding of the subject and I can see the lessons carrying on until I am fluent. Jenny is also very flexible. I work fairly long hours and she has made time for me fairly late in the evening to accomodate this which is very much appreciated. Jenny has lived experience in Japan which I find very helpful as she can put what is being learnt into context which helps a lot. It also means you get to learn more about the Japanese culture and customs which in itself is interesting and something you do not get from learning in the apps. I would happily recommend Jenny to anyone who is looking to learn Japanese. More...

A friend of mine recommended Jenny to my husband, who really wanted to learn Japanese. I got in touch with an extremely vague query about costs, logistics and times. Jenny went above and beyond. I wanted to buy a block of lessons for Christmas so it was all very sketchy on what times would work best for my husband, how he would get on etc etc. Jenny was friendly, understanding, helpful and honestly amazing. She helped me pick out accompanying gifts that would compliment his learning. Available to answer questions any time I asked. My husband got in touch with her to organise lessons. He hates talking on the phone and can be awkward with people he doesn't know. Jenny out him completely at ease from day 1. He is now making great progress and absolutely loves his lessons. He is most definitely alive with the love of learning! Thank you Jenny for being such an amazing teacher and also for being so supportive of the whole process!! More...

I would definitely recommend Jenny as a Japanese tutor! She is friendly, patient and encouraging, and puts you at ease straightaway. Lessons are fun and engaging and she makes sure to go at the right pace to match how quickly (or slowly) I pick new things up. It's great that during lessons Jenny is also happy to pass on her knowledge of living in Japan and Japanese culture & customs which I'm sure will be really helpful for our upcoming trip to Japan. Also lessons are very reasonably priced. Thanks Jenny :) More...

The first thing my child wanted to do when they became home educated was take up Japanese. We had tried another tutor who was lovely and had more of a 'school' approach which wasn't a suitable match. I then found Jenny! Whose engaging material and approach has been perfect for my neurospicy 13 yr old!!!!! To see their confidence grow and to see them fully engage in their education has meant so much. Great value for money, helpful, approachable and organised. More...

What can I say other than, if you’re interested in learning Japanese or vice versa, make no hesitation in booking in with this lady…. . She’s very calm and considerate to all those nervy folks out there which enables you to be confident to do your best in each lesson. My daughters had about 6 lessons now & already thinks she knows it all 🤪 Jen uses the computer screen to engage with the students with fun games and tasks which stimulates my daughter’s willingness to learn. She comes out of her lessons buzzing and the rate is more than manageable when you consider you are learning a whole new language. She also sends me updates and gives me homework to keep my daughter engaged In between lessons. Look no further and book in!!! More...

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about teaching Japanese is seeing learners come alive the moment it clicks. That look of “I can actually do this!” is the heart of my job. Whether it’s a child reading their first hiragana word or an adult holding their first sentence with confidence, those moments are everything.
I’ve worked with learners of all ages and abilities, and nothing beats watching someone grow in confidence right before your eyes. Children light up when they remember a character or win a language game, and adults often surprise themselves with how quickly they pick things up. Those little victories? They add up fast — and they’re genuinely exciting.
My favourite part of teaching is helping people feel proud of themselves. I love seeing shy students start speaking out loud, neurodiverse learners finding strategies that finally work for them, and adults who thought they’d “never get it” suddenly realising… they are getting it.
For me, Japanese isn’t just a language — it’s joy, progress, confidence, and connection. And getting to witness those breakthroughs every single day is exactly why I love what I do.
What inspired you to start your own business?
What inspired me to start my own business was really simple: there was a huge gap in the market. As someone who learned Japanese as an English speaker, I know exactly how challenging, confusing, and — honestly — boring it can be when the materials aren’t designed with you in mind. I spent years learning from old, stuffy textbooks that didn’t explain things in a way that made sense, and I knew there had to be a better way.
I wanted to create lessons that were fun, interactive, and actually enjoyable — not something learners have to “push through.” I wanted students to feel excited, not overwhelmed. And I especially wanted to build something accessible for neurodiverse learners, because so many teaching methods simply don’t support them properly. I understood those struggles, and I knew I could make a difference.
So I built a space where lessons are engaging, visual, hands-on, and tailored to each learner. A place where students feel understood, supported, and confident. A place where Japanese can be learned in a way that finally clicks.
That’s why I started my business: to offer the kind of Japanese teaching I wish I’d had — fun, clear, modern, and accessible to everyone.
Why should our clients choose you?
Clients should choose me because I combine professional training with real empathy and experience. I know how to teach Japanese in a way that works for different minds, different ages, and different abilities. My lessons are interactive, enjoyable, and structured to help students build confidence quickly. I create a welcoming space where learners feel comfortable to try, make mistakes, ask questions, and grow.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I provide all my lessons remotely, and in many ways it actually works far better than traditional face-to-face lessons. Teaching online allows us to use a highly interactive learning system that simply isn’t possible in a normal classroom setting. Students can write directly on the slides, draw, play language games, move objects around, type in English and Japanese, and use tools that make learning faster, more engaging, and far more fun.
The online setup keeps learners focused, involved, and confident, and it works especially well for neurodiverse students who benefit from visuals, structure, and hands-on interaction. So although my lessons are remote, they’re actually more interactive than most in-person classes — and students often make progress more quickly as a result.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
All of my lessons are delivered online, so my services are naturally fully COVID-safe. Students learn from the comfort of their own home, and there is no physical contact or shared materials. This means there is zero risk of transmission and no need for masks or distancing.
In addition, moving lessons online has actually improved the learning experience. Students can interact directly with the digital classroom, write on slides, complete activities, and access their resources instantly — all while staying safe and protected.
Because everything is remote, my services remain completely accessible, consistent, and COVID-friendly at all times.
