We picked Stuart randomly from a Google search. From 3 architects that came out to visit, he was the one who asked what we wanted and didn't throw his ideas on us. We live in Bournville and on the trust and he understood the parameters we had to stay within but also, how to maximise our extension potential. He worked quickly and very accurately. Our application process took a while but that was mainly due to BVT and the council. All passed with no issues and we got what we wanted. Stuart made sure we had all the right paperwork and educated us on the process. We are almost finished with our extension now and all of the work Stuart planned has been built and done. Our builder stated that our plans were perfect, down to the millimetre. He had no issues knowing what we wanted or how to build it due to the in depth plans and detail. Initially the work comprised: removal of fireplaces, chimneys and load-bearing wall, loft conversion, and addition of external wall insulation. Subsequently he also helped design or specify: new ground floor slabs with underfloor heating, duct runs for mechanical ventilation & heat recovery system, a wall of double-glazed windows including french windows with an 'invisible' Juliet balcony, and many minor details. Architectural Services
SM Jones Architecture provides a number of architectural services from inception through to the commencement of construction on site.
The start of the process begins with the free initial Consultation running through to the appointment to undertake your project. Home improvement will require various applications, planning consent/lawful development certificate and building regulation plan check approval, to this end drawings and specifications are produced, using 2D CAD drafting.
Initial Consultation - During the initial consultation, your requirements will be discussed, including how the design works with the property.
Existing Drawings Stage - Upon a fee proposal acceptance, a measured survey of the property will be undertaken. This will include dimensions, structural elements, drains and a public sewer search, where necessary.
Planning Consent/LDC Stage - Early on in this stage the design brief is confirmed, and the concept design is developed, taking into account functional layout, construction methods, and aesthetic architectural style. A planning application or application for a lawful certificate will be made on your behalf and work with the Planning Officer to progress the application.
Building Regulation Plans Approval Stage - The technical design is developed to submit a Building Regulation Full Plans Application, we will liaise with the Building Control Officer to receive approval. Most projects will require a degree of consultation with other professionals. A structural engineer and SAP assessor (where there are large amounts of over glazing) will be required to consult on the project to obtain approval.
