How did Self Gen Connect Ltd come about?
Shaun and Rick first worked together back in 1996 and are both seasoned professionals with many years of ethical business and management experience.

Having worked in the Solar Energy and Storage industry, two inescapable factors became apparent very quickly.

Firstly, with the daily evidence of the need to achieve net zero emission targets absolutely refusing to be ignored, plus the intense focus on providing renewable energy solutions, the needs for ‘Energy Storage Systems’ and ‘Renewable Energy Capture’ are definitely here to stay!

Secondly, as with many growth industries, there is a latent disparity between what you, the end users, need and what you actually get for your money!

Recognising these inescapable factors was what led Shaun and Rick to form Self Gen Connect Ltd. Helping people to navigate their way through the unavoidable challenges of addressing energy usage options and thereby finding the most efficient and cost-effective solution was SGC’s reason for being!

SGC consciously aims to search out technological advances that benefit its customers. By assessing their requirements realistically and not getting too wrapped up in ‘exporting to the grid’ we know that we can deliver better solutions for you to power your home efficiently.

If we take a representative household (‘average’ is so full of danger, isn’t it?) using around 3,000kWh of electricity each year, with an ‘average’ usage of circa 8kWh per day (leaving aside PV Solar Panels for the moment), quoting for 10kWh of storage with a 3kWh inverter at circa £7,000 - £8,000 might seem reasonable. However, we all know that your year isn’t neatly divided into 365 equal days. Cold, wet, dark winter nights snuggled up indoors will use up far more energy than summer evenings, often spent outside of the house. SGC would be more likely to suggest an option with 15kWh of storage with a 6kWh inverter at less than £6,500, which would cope with your peak demands much more effectively. Lower outlay and greater capacity, doesn’t that make sense?
