I am a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor and registered member of the BACP (Reg no. 374212) As well as seeing adults in my private practice, I have also worked at a charitable organisation providing counselling services to young people and adults between 16 and 25.

Witnessing change and growth in clients is an enormous privilege, and is the most wonderful part of the job.

Going though my own life struggles and looking for answers.

The process of finding a counsellor or therapist often involves doing a little research and then following your own intuition. Unlike choosing a GP, finding a therapist is often a much more personal journey. Here are my top tips:

1. Thankfully, counselling is becoming much more commonplace nowadays. So, if you can, speak to a friend or relative who has had counselling and see what they liked or didn’t like about the experience. This may help to give you a clearer idea of what you are looking for.

2. Looking at a therapist’s website can give you a greater sense of who they are and whether you can work with them. Don’t be afraid to email them with any questions or concerns you may have about the counselling process.

3. It is good to start with someone who is BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) registered as this will offer reassurance that the person you choose is qualified, committed to a good standard of care, subject to a complaints procedure and works to a strong ethical framework.

4. Although not necessarily essential, you might want to check that the therapist has experience in the area in which you are seeking support. If you are not sure, contact the therapist directly to check.

5. Lastly, ask yourself if you feel comfortable working with this counsellor. Research indicates that it is the strength of the therapeutic relationship between you your therapist that is the key factor in creating lasting change, so it is important that you feel comfortable working with the person you choose.

I can work both in person and remotely. My preference is either Google Meet or WhatsApp, but any platform can be used.
