What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about being a family mediator is the opportunity to help families find peaceful solutions during some of their most challenging times. It’s incredibly rewarding to see people move from conflict to understanding, and to know that I’ve helped them create a better future for themselves and their children. Every family is different, and I enjoy the variety of working with people from all walks of life, especially when I can offer multilingual support and culturally sensitive solutions that truly make a difference.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired to start my own mediation business after experiencing firsthand the complexities and emotional strain of family disputes. Having gone through my own family breakdown, I realised how important it is to have a calm, supportive space where families can work through their issues without escalating to court. I wanted to create a service that not only resolves conflicts but does so with a deep understanding of cultural and religious sensitivities, offering multilingual support to help even more families. My passion for helping others and creating lasting, positive change in their lives led me to establish Salam Mediation.
Why should our clients choose you?
Clients should choose Salam Mediation because we offer a personalised, compassionate approach to resolving family disputes. As a registered mediator with the Family Mediation Council (FMC), I provide a professional and structured service that helps families reach fair agreements without the stress of court. What sets us apart is our commitment to serving diverse communities—we offer multilingual support in English, Bengali, Portuguese, and other languages, and we bring a deep understanding of cultural and religious values to every case. Whether it's child arrangements, financial settlements, or co-parenting agreements, we ensure that the needs of the entire family, especially the children, are prioritised.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes, Salam Mediation offers online and remote mediation services to ensure that families can access support no matter where they are. We provide virtual mediation sessions via secure video conferencing platforms, allowing participants to engage in discussions from the comfort of their own homes. This service is particularly helpful for clients who may have busy schedules, are located in different regions, or feel more comfortable participating remotely. Our online mediation maintains the same professional standards as in-person sessions, ensuring a safe, confidential, and effective process for resolving family disputes.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
At Salam Mediation, we’ve implemented several measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Firstly, we offer online mediation sessions via secure video conferencing to eliminate the need for in-person meetings, allowing families to resolve disputes safely from home. For those who prefer or require face-to-face mediation, we follow strict safety protocols, including maintaining social distancing, providing hand sanitiser, and ensuring that our meeting spaces are regularly cleaned and well-ventilated. We also limit the number of participants in each session to comply with health guidelines and prioritise everyone's safety.
Child Arrangements Mediation
At Salam Mediation, we assist parents in creating workable, practical arrangements for their children after separation or divorce. This includes deciding where the children will live, scheduling contact with the non-resident parent, and ensuring smooth transitions between households. We also help address holiday arrangements, ensuring that the best interests of the children are the primary focus throughout the mediation process.
Financial and Property Mediation
Our financial mediation services help separating couples divide their assets fairly and transparently. We assist in discussing property, savings, pensions, and debts, as well as agreeing on spousal maintenance and child support. Our goal is to help you reach mutually satisfactory agreements without the need for stressful court proceedings.
Co-Parenting Agreements
We work with parents to develop clear, structured co-parenting agreements that benefit the children and provide stability. This includes how decisions will be made about education, healthcare, and general welfare, as well as how communication between parents will be managed. We also help set up systems for resolving future disputes.
Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAM)
Before proceeding to court, you are required to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM). We offer MIAMs to assess whether mediation is suitable for your situation and to provide you with an alternative to resolving disputes outside of court.
Multilingual Mediation Services
At Salam Mediation, we offer multilingual services in English, Bengali, and Portuguese. Our aim is to make the mediation process as clear and accessible as possible for clients, regardless of language barriers. This service ensures that everyone can fully participate and understand the mediation process.
Faith-Based Mediation
We offer faith-based mediation that respects cultural and religious values, particularly within Islamic and South Asian communities. Our approach takes into consideration the nuances of faith and culture, providing a supportive and understanding environment for families looking to resolve disputes in a way that aligns with their beliefs.
Divorce and Separation Mediation
We provide neutral and professional support for couples going through divorce or separation. Our services include discussions about child arrangements, financial matters, and practical solutions to manage emotional conflicts. We aim to help couples reach amicable agreements without going to court.
Mediation for Extended Family Disputes
Family disputes aren’t just limited to parents. We provide mediation services for extended family members, including grandparents and step-parents, who may wish to be involved in the children’s lives. This service aims to help families find peaceful resolutions that benefit all parties involved.
Short Notice Mediation
We understand that some family disputes require immediate attention. Salam Mediation offers short-notice mediation services to accommodate urgent situations, ensuring timely support when families need it most.
