Paul provided valuable guidance and insight during a crossroad in my career. His approach was thoughtful and tailored to my specific goals, helping me clarify my direction and build confidence in my next steps. I appreciated Paul’s ability to listen and offer actionable advice without feeling overwhelmed.

While I came in with some uncertainty, Paul helped me assess challenges and approach next steps through the development of a clear plan. I would recommend Paul’s services to anyone looking for focused and practical career support.

Q&As

Seeing people transform or come through a transition successfully.

Leadership is a learnt skill and can only be learnt in practice. The support of a coach can help develop these skills faster, help review experiences to learn.

More importantly help the individual negotiate different leadership situations. It can be lonely at the top and CEOs or MDs it can be useful to have someone external to reflect with.

My goal is to help us create more Great Leaders that business and the world needs to inspire, motivate and unleash potential.

Coaching and psychology was something I wanted to do when I was 18. I didn't get the grades at the time and pursued a different career in business. Some 45 years later, when I was laid off, I got the chance to do it and found that I loved helping people succeed. I also now have a lot of life and business experience they can benefit from. Coaching is about taking years of experience and learning and distilling it into weeks, days or even hours to help someone's growth accelerate. For the last twenty years I have continued to learn, take courses where necessary, grow and improve my coaching service

Unless a client wants a one off coaching session, I encourage an initial meeting to understand where the client is on their journey. Equipped with that information I can determine the best coaching for the client and whether I can provide it. I will turn a client down if I don't think we can succeed together. These initial meetings cut both ways. Neither party wants a failure on their hands. These meetings are not free coaching sessions but about setting the coaching relationship up for success. Success is not an accident!

Three factors—connection, experience, and approach—are foundational to a productive and impactful coaching relationship.

1. Chemistry & Rapport
The relationship between coach and client is crucial. A coach you trust and feel comfortable with will push you in the right ways and help you grow. Without strong rapport, even a highly skilled coach may not be effective for you personally.

2. Relevant Experience
The coach should have experience that aligns with your industry, role, or specific challenges. This helps ensure they understand your context and can provide actionable insights and guidance relevant to your goals.

3. Coaching Style & Approach
Their methodology should align with your learning style and needs, whether you prefer a more structured, goal-oriented approach or a more reflective, transformative process. The right style ensures the coaching process resonates and creates meaningful impact.

Coaching has evolved over the years from the situation of a face to face meeting once a month that might last three hours to 45 minute online meetings every week to 10 days. This allows coaching to happen; just in time; for it to be needed and practice to occur between sessions for example; difficult conversations with subordinates; reflection and learning from interviews. Practice makes permanent and learning only comes from practice. Reflection and constructive feedback speeds up learning.

Probably non applicable these days. Most meetings are online.

Coaching is:

Unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them. Whitmore (2003)

A professional partnership between a qualified coach and an individual or team that supports the achievement of extraordinary results, based on the goals set by the individual or team (ICF, 2005)

Coaching is the art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another. (Myles Downey, 2003)

Designed for those in further education usually masters looking to navigate future goals and build on success to date.

Redundancy has become more of an occupational hazard than the stigma it used to carry. Just as people can out grow their companies or their role within a company, companies can change direction that mean your skills are no longer the right fit.
This coaching is designed to get you back on your feet quickly whilst taking the strategic view has to how to turn this into an opportunity.
I have been made redundant twice as well as making over thirty people redundant in my corporate career.

A sequence of targeted coached steps, bespoke to your needs, to help you create a fulfilling balanced life delivered over three months.
Includes dealing with stress and burnout.

Wherever you are in your career journey this coaching is designed to get you the work / career or career change you want.

The course is designed so that you can jump into which ever bit you need right now. For example a cv, a winning covering letter, finding opportunities or staring over - selecting your career goals.

Six steps taught over 6 or 12 weeks in 45 minutes sessions to give you the tools to develop a lasting toolkit to manage and reboot your career when necessary.

I have always enjoyed other peoples' company, meeting and listening to people. This has allowed me to develop networks of friends and colleagues over the years with many different skills and expertise to myself.
A few years ago I was asked to sell a company. Initially I turned the request down on the basis of not having the right skills. The request was repeated and this time I sought direction from my netwok as to how might do this. My network delivered for me and I met people whose skills complemented mine and I put a team together to sell the company. It was a win win win for the company owners, people in my network and myself.
In essence all success is based on team, but teams can be transitional just for specific events. This skill can help you achieve more by working with others in an informal and formal way.

50% of all first time directorships fail in the first year. This is bad for the individual and for the company. The cost to the company is lost time, lost money, at least £200k and, perhaps, the cost of poor decision making.
The loss to the individual can be considerably more, in loss of confidence, self esteem and so on.
This coaching is designed to help you set yourself up for success and minimise the risk of failure.

I work with a number of clients on business start up and scaling up.

I have developed the Dynamic Business Plan. A tool that helps keep entrepreneurs focused on their destination, keep themselves in balance, navigate bumps in the road and set up themselves up for success.

To make some of my services more affordable I offer group coaching on specific topics such as goal setting.

We are rarely able to recruit our teams from scratch. We move from one company to another, we are switched teams, we are promoted and have more than one team.

Our performance is inextricably linked with the performance of our team. As leader you have a massive influence on the team performance and this tool gives a roadmap to excellence.

I partner with a company called Performance Climate Systems. It has a well researched model based in science and, most, importantly has a proven track record.

It differentiates between business culture and climate; culture being the "personality" of the company / organisation and hard to change and Climate being the "mood" being much more malleable and fits with one of my preferred definitions of "Leadership - that its the transference of emotion."

The research evidences that around 70% of an organisation's performance is down to climate. Additionally, 70% of climate is as a result of the leader's behaviour. Using this tool is in effect holding a mirror to the Team and the Leader and provide a common language for debate and to create the desired change to better performance. It will tell you whether the leadership is enabling and how to build on it as well as understanding the learning and development needs of your team

The leader's profile is analysed and shown separately from the team (which are consolidated - so not identifiable to one person but the team) to ensure it doesn't bias the results. It shows quite clearly if you (the leader and the team) are synchronisation.

The way it works is:

The leadership team would complete a questionnaire - its online and takes about 20 minutes - I would get the results 48 hours after the last person completes the questionnaire. I would need some time to interpret the results and prepare the feedback.

The results would take a day for me to deliver - 1 hour for the leader first and then 2-3 hours for the team in the afternoon which the leader could be present in depending on the results. Everybody gets a copy of the same report.

It can be used to gauge the current situation or be part of a learning and development program.

A typical team building scenario then we would look at following this up every quarter for a year. So, 4 sessions in total.
