Students of all ages attend our study centre on a Thursday. In these sessions they will hand in their completed work and begin their new set of work with the support of our tutors; their work will be returned and discussed with their tutor.

We needed to find additional tuition for our child in English and in Maths. For one reason or another he was a bit behind. We started him aged 9 with both English and maths classes. He gets a 1 hour class mid week with homework which we do with him. The biggest improvement was with confidence when he realised he could actually do the work and could progress if he worked hard. I was quite desperate to get a tuition for my son’s English GCSE exam. It is plenty on the market but when you explore nothing is quite right. I booked First class learning in Barnet centre purely by chance- I get them on the phone and liked how our conversation went. It was our lucky strike! During our two term tuition they observed my son’s personal needs very close, he raised his confidence and mock grade in English! We end up booking science tuition with them too. And in very short time my boy gotten 8 in his mock in chemistry, before rated 6! The only regret that I didn’t find them sooner! Highly recommend! Both my children studied English and Maths at FCL Barnet. My daughter started when she was struggling with Maths at Primary School. From being bottom of the class, she achieved grade 9 at GCSE and went on to achieve an A at A Level. She is now a maths tutor herself. After attending FCL Barnet, my son got through the entrance for Haberdashers and went on to achieve a grade 9 in English and Maths at GCSE. He couldn't have done it without the excellent tutoring he experienced at FCL Barnet. They also helped my son through all the lockdowns, making sure there were no gaps in his study, even through those difficult times. FCL Barnet is a friendly and welcoming centre, they're always happy to talk about difficulties your child might be having and support them until they are proficient in the subjects they're studying. What do you love most about your job?
I have been working with children and young people since 1999 so I have had the opportunity to see children grow into successful adults. Amongst many, there are two things I absolutely love about this job:
- Former students coming back to us to say thank you and tell us how much our team have helped them succeed, and,
- Witnessing a child's excitement when they unlock a new skill.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I used to volunteer at a local community centre with inspirational kids as they were full of energy and had an opinion about everything. However, I was shocked to find out that those craving more education had limited options as private schools were expensive. Also, there were kids that were great at many things but lack understanding of a particular subject or was not inspired by their teachers and needed a fresh approach to the subject.
I realised these children needed a service that could offer a different approach to learning. It needed to be new, hands-on and focused on the particular area of need.
Why should our clients choose you?
We identify the areas that require improvement or further development and offer a fresh way of delivering education that is aligned with the national curriculum.
At this centre, we conduct an assessment that gives us information about this child strengths and areas for improvement. These are used to create an individual learning plan that uses the strengths to develop that areas of improvement. The individual learning plan is align to the national curriculum so the areas covered with us are quickly reflected as positive results in school.
Using the plan, each child develops their technical skills without repetition. We then provide various hands-on activities that uses these skills to solve real problems. For example, the teach fractions and then we ask the child to bake 3 cupcakes using a recipe for 17 cupcakes.
Finally, we offer various trips to employers in the City of London so children get a chance to see how subjects like maths and English are important in the real world.
