Ah, such a lovely bakery! Row H took me here on a hot beverage tour of Headingly yesterday, and what a treat! As soon as you enter, the whole atmosphere is a real treat; a crisp and bright vintage-inspired interior, with a display of delicious cupcakes lined up in an appetizing arrangement, everything is laid out to welcome you in. Getting settled in on an obscenely comfortable sofa, we set down to tea, coffee and a little sweet treat.I had a huge pot of spiced tea, which was a real winter warmer, making me forget about the chill weather outside, and this was accompanied by a sweet banoffee cupcake, which was just the thing to appeal to my sugar craving; lovely soft sponge, with a rich and morish icing, make for something I will definitely be heading back in for another helping before too long!Combined with the exceedingly friendly staff, this bakery is a real treat, and a welcome addition to this quirky student corner of Leeds! Ah Love Rouge.  They know how to do atmosphere.  A massive collection of cupcakes to choose from (lemon is my favourite) and they'll pass it to you on a lovely china plate.  The decor is gorgeous, reclaimed furnture lovingly painted and restored, comfy seats, swift service and an unhurried attitude to lingering.  The cakes are mostly lovely and moist, freshly prepared each day, with very delicious frosting and the 'theme' running through - lemon curd in the lemon sponge, blueberries in the blueberry sponge etc..  I always try to get there before the end of the day when they can be a tad on the dry side...but hey they're FRESH.  Coffee and Tea is of a very high standard.  I'm surprised how Costa stay so popular with coffee to rival the best Italy has to offer available here, at Ecco Pizzeria and the lovely Mint Cafe on North Lane. I love the cups and crockery in this place...the music sets it just so.  Makes me want to dose off sometimes in this little haven of tranquiliity.  We use it as a treat when the purse strings need tightening, as an alternative to lunch.  Works just as well and my those cupcakes fill you.  I haven't really tried the sandwiches, but they look fine and will hold up to competition in Headingley which is pretty fierce tbh.  Defo best cupcakes though.Incidentally they also do a very nice selection of gifts.  We bought a 6 cake selection along with a very pretty espresso cup set for a friend recently and she was chuffed to bits. Quick cuppa and cake whilst waiting for my optician appointment.  Very delicious battenburg cupcake, but far too much icing for me. Lovely tranquil calm inside here with very friendly staff and felt like a world away from the bustle of Headingley outside.  i didn't venture upstairs, but will teh next time that I am in as this really was lovely and would certainly like to try their savouries! This is a lovely cafe. I've been here a few times and it is my favourite cheer up, you don't need him anyway destination to bring friends. Many many cupcake and tea flavours will never go wrong in my book!I recently also went in for lunch, enjoyed a most tasty falafel bagel and took a sneaky peek at their newly opened upstairs section. Much the same as downstairs but it was nice to see that it's doing well enough to merit the extra tables and chairs. Also one time, when I was walking home from work, they had left a plate of cupcakes outside with a sign saying please take me and enjoy. A free cupcake on an otherwise relatively boring walk home. Winner! More...

I've been in this place a few times and I have always loved the atmosphere.  Doris Day playing in the background, fun, kitschy stuff for sale, and lovely china tea cups.  Of course, one of the main attractions is their cupcakes!  With lots of different flavors to choose from, they're as attractive as they are delicious. My husband and I had an afternoon tea there once.  We EACH got sandwiches, a cupcakes, a piece of cake and tea.  There was so much food we had to ask to take the rest of it home.  It was a lovely experience and I would definitely recommend it.  Bit pricey though, so not something to do often. It isn't my favorite coffee around, but it's better than a lot of places.  All in all, I would say if you're in Headingley and looking for a drink and something sweet to eat, you should certainly give Love Rouge a try! I've been quite a few times there since I live just two mins away from there. It's a really nice and relaxing place to go and have a nice cup of tea. Although their cupcakes in general was nice, the cheesecake flavour one didn't impress me that much. The cake was simple and the icing had a tangy flavour like it should have been stored in a fridge but didn't. But that didn't stop me going there and try other flavours. All and all a nice place to relax with a snack and a hot drink. The decor has a nice vintage feeling and they the price is reasonable. Definitely better choice than going to a an expensive generic franchise cafe. More...

One of my favourite things about Love Rouge is the amazing cabinet where the pretty (and yummy) cupcakes live. I've only been twice (despite it being dangerously close to where I now live. ..) but both times I've wanted to stay all afternoon eating my way through the different flavours - I will do this one day. The first time I had a peanut and chocolate cupcake which was lovely and moist (unusual for a cupcake) and a pot of tea. Unfortunately the pretty teapot didn't pour the tea out that well but I didn't mind because it was aesthetically pleasing. The second time I had the slice of cake as I realised I would get more cake to the pound. I chose a slice of chocolate cake and it was light, moist with a deep chocolate flavour... and the chocolate icing was...well...really chocolatey and light. How do they do it? I paired my cake up with a pretty decent americano for the £3.50 deal. The only slight downside to Love Rouge is that it's a bit small inside and you have to balance yourself on the vintage style chairs and tables. However they can box up your cakes to take home.
