How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Minimum Height Requirements
To ensure a comfortable and practical living space, your loft must meet minimum head height requirements. The general rule is:
The distance from the top of your existing floor to the underside of the ridge timber should be at least 2250mm (2.25m) or approximately 7 feet 4 inches.
However, keep in mind that once insulation, flooring, and ceiling finishes are installed, the final ceiling height in your loft will likely be around 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches).
If your loft doesn’t meet this height requirement, options like lowering the ceilings on the floor below or raising the roof may be possible. However, these are significantly more expensive and may require planning permission. Due to our streamlined processes, Loft Box only works with lofts that meet the minimum height requirement, so if your loft is too low, unfortunately, we won’t be able to help.
