I worked with Fortune Financials for a year as a sole trader. They helped with invoicing and provided sound advice that initially helped my business grow.

Unfortunately, the transition to limited company was handled unprofessionally and with some risk to my business. They dropped out with 7 days notice and I had to watch my business unravel. Their customer “DIY” approach to setting up my limited company meant I requested two PAYE authorisations and neither I, nor they, knew limited companies can only have one. I therefore experienced months of delays getting paid.

One director initially refused to submit my tax return despite the fee being included in the monthly direct debit I had paid for a year. The handover was chaotic, although a zoom recording was made for the new accountant, and I realised when the new accountants started that sums of money had not been reconciled or invoiced for (over £1000).

The process they had used to create financial statements was manual in excel, line by line, and took them hours, when I since discovered this could be done using the software I provided. In summary, I needed to put this review on here because my business was at risk for a short period, and I need to warn others who may be making the transition from sole trader to limited company.

My sense is that they took on too many clients and had to drop the smaller businesses/time-consuming work quickly to free up their time. However, had they used the software efficiently, I would have gladly paid them the same fee for less work. More...

We're sorry that you're upset we had to disengage with you and would like to address your review. We worked with you from Feb 2023 - June 2024. After providing hours of free advice we had no option but to start billing for our time. At this point your attitude changed and we felt we had no option but to disengage from working with you. You mentioned that your business began to "unravel" but we fail to see how any of our actions may have contributed. Many of our sole trader clients have incorporated using these instructions, or paying for us to register for them, with no issues. We were unaware that you registered for PAYE twice. As you mentioned, a zoom recording was made for your new accountant. This was a service that we provided free of charge, at your request, to make the handover as smooth as possible. We informed your new accountants that they could contact us at any time and we have not received anything that we have not responded to. At the point of handover, everything was reconciled and your tax return was completed and submitted. The financial statements you refer to were not exported from the software. You requested tailor made management accounts which we designed specifically for your business. Between the directors of our firm, we have 45 years of experience in this field and this is the first time we have had a review of this nature. We wish you all the best for the future.
