I have been incredibly impressed with Rachel and the team at First Class Learning, my son (now in year 6 of primary) has struggled with both maths and English for many years and became further disengaged in year 5. He started with First Class in July 2024 and has improved to the point where he is no longer 'working towards expected' in school but is now at 'expected' for a child of his age. First Class carried out an assessment initially and took him right back to basics followed by repetition and drills to ensure he is secure in key operations before moving him on to the next phase. Although we have experienced some resistance at points with our son, he has preserved and is now 6 months on feeling much happier and more confident and is engaged in maths and English because he has been supported. He is seeing the benefits of this additional Learning and recieving lots of praise at school which has encouraged him further. I am not sure that he would feel as positive as he does not had we not sought the services from First Class Learning. Thank you Rachel and the First Class Learning team. More...

Not a quiet library to study in. Staff talking loudly across the library at each other without consideration for the users. I left after 10 minutes (this was despite wearing headphones - could hear them over the top of what I was trying to listen to) Such a shame. More...

Very friendly staff but technically not so great they do not have ms office if you want to use and slow Internet. So spent 40 minutes trying to print something for nothing.

Although three miles out of Weston and with poor parking facilities this is worth the effort to reach. Unlike Weston's main library there are no security guards to keep out life's undesirables, nor is it a haven for life's social misfits either. There are a lot of internet machines, a photocopier and lots of books. The staff have been helpful when I have needed their advice too. At weekends it can busy as local children participate in sporting activities also held on the ground floor, although in separate rooms. More...

What do you love most about your job?
I firmly believe that all children can succeed in Maths and English, given the right amount of practice and guidance. They all have the potential. I love the fact that I am helping children to enjoy and excel in Maths & English. I can see their confidence build and children go from finding a subject difficult to being able to do it, moving up a set in school or achieving fantastic results in a test or exam.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my own business over 25 years ago when I ran 2 Kumon centres. I changed over to First Class Learning over 11 years ago as I felt it gave more flexibility in teaching the children. I’ve been able to raise a family alongside building it up and have loved every minute of it.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have had over 25 years experience in tutoring children of all ages and abilities and have a great passion for helping them to believe they can succeed.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
During any national lockdown, online support is available and the programme of daily work is posted to you directly every month.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
The First Class Learning (FCL) Centre is now fully open and we follow UK Government guidelines to create a learning environment that is, as far as is reasonably practicable, COVID-19 Secure. Our priority is to help keep everyone safe and we have put the arrangements in place to do this.
Maths and English Tuition
First Class Learning is a worksheet based programme which is in line with the UK National Curriculum and gives 10 to 15 minutes of daily practice and weekly class sessions. It helps to boost confidence, fill in gaps in their understanding and builds their skills to a high standard, ensuring success for all students. The little and often approach really does work. Free skills assessments are available.
