I hired Driveline, managed by James, to complete paving and artificial grass in my garden. Although James initially agreed that payment would be made only after completion (a key reason I chose him), he began requesting money on the first day, contrary to our agreement.
The workmanship was poor. The pavers were misaligned and not level; despite my reminders that the slope should be away from the house, this was not followed. He installed 15 mm slabs after I specified 20 mm. He also left construction debris in the back of my garden wall instead of removing it as agreed. The artificial grass supplied appears to be a very low grade and will likely need replacing.
A few days later, I noticed grass growing through areas where stones were laid, suggesting there may be no concrete or proper base underneath. On the artificial grass section, soil is rising through the surface, which should not happen if a suitable hard sub-base and sand layer are installed.
James has repeatedly promised to fix the issues but has not followed through. Overall, the job was poorly executed, and the finish looks bad. for the money I paid, I would have expected a professional finish. I’m sharing this so others can make an informed decision. I hired Driveline Paving And Patios, run by James in June 2025, to install a new patio at my property. From the outset, James assured me that no payment would be required until the job was completed to my satisfaction. However, just two days after starting, he began pressuring me for payment and even threatened to abandon the job and leave the site in a mess if I didn’t pay immediately. I reluctantly paid in good faith.

Once the patio was completed, I discovered multiple serious issues:

The patio was laid only 40mm below the damp proof course (DPC), falling well short of the 150mm industry standard. This is a basic requirement to prevent damp and moisture problems and could result in long-term property damage.

Several slabs were wobbly and poorly bedded. They did return to fix these after complaints, but during the repair he left visible dents and damage to multiple tiles, further compromising the quality and appearance.

My lawn was also damaged due to prolonged storage of materials on it, resulting in dead grass, and cement was left on the surface, leaving lasting stains, resulting me spend hundreds of pounds to returf.

Despite repeated promises to come back and put things right, James failed to show up and eventually stopped responding entirely. No resolution or accountability was ever offered.

This entire experience was frustrating, stressful, and costly. The poor workmanship, broken promises, aggressive payment demands, and lack of aftercare demonstrate a complete lack of professionalism. I am now facing potential legal action to recover the cost of repairs and damage.

This customer totally went against our advice. We told him he needed aqua drains at the property and he went against our advice. Only when job was finished did he said  he wanted them installed and  and he refused to pay for extra labour to reinstall,them, I told him I have 30 years experience and I know how to do a job correctly  it was no fault of mine or my workers
