I used Clever Accounts for the first time this year. What a big mistake and a waste of money.
Quickly to collect their fee.
But they informed me I only need to pay £1700 of tax. BUT HMRC contacted me and said I owe £4330.
How on earth do they get it that wrong???? And then they come up with excuses like they did not incorporate my other salaries. Isn't that part of accounting / bookkeeping service? I paid for a service and only got 1/2 a service.
This is the lowest level of service I have seen and absolutely no help offered to correct this £2630 mistake.
DONT USE this company unless you like big nasty surprises from HMRC.
I referred so many of my mates to them, and they had the same experience. All will be moving away and never use them again.
I am NOT happy with this, and I am seriously upset!

I have used Clever Accounts though Free Agent for about 2 years.
I would not recommend there service at all, there is no client engagement, the "accountant" assigned does not attempt to understand your needs as a customer and they never meet the deadline they provide you.
I submitted my draft accounts through free agent to Clever Accounts early April 2024 and even though I have chased time after time, having been promises delivery on several occasions they still have not arrived.
The latest excuse having missed their own deadline again is "Regarding your company accounts, they are with my manager as there is an issue that needs further insight ".
DONT USE THEM ITS A WAIST OF YOUR HARD EARNT MONEY

Quoted costs during calls, first invoice issued and was considerably higher than discussed. First call with my "accountant" was eye opening. Saajid didnt really explain any benefits in becoming a limited company, didnt show any interest in my business at all and wanted to get off the phone as soon as possible. Dedicated accountant
You'll have unlimited access to your own dedciated, experienced accountant who you can email and phone for any help with your accounting requirements.
Unlimited support and advice
No matter how many qustions you have, your dedicated accountant can answer them. We don't just provide reactive advice, your accountant will be always be working to help with your accounting requirements.
VAT Returns
If you're VAT registered (or would like to be), we'll provide all the advice and support to get set up correctly, plus ensure your VAT returns are submitted each quarter using our MTD compatible software.
Year end accounts and tax returns
We'll prepare and submit all your year end accounts and tax returns to HMRC and Companies House, where relevant, in plenty of time.
MTD compatible online software
To ensure you are fully compliant, we'll provide you with our own bespoke, online bookkeeping software to ensure you are up to date with your finances. You can also connect your bank using our Open Banking facility. Don't worry, we'll also provide you with full training on using it.
Self-assessment
Included in our monthly fee, we'll prepare and submit your personal self-assessment tax return each year.
IR35 advice and planning
If you're a contractor or freelancer and caught by IR35, we'll provide all the help and advice necessary to help understand your options.
Payroll service
If needed, we'll process up to 2 director payrolls each month free of charge. If you have multiple employees then we can help out plus help set up and process your auto-enrolments pension requirements.
Choose your accounting software
While we offer our own bespoke MTD compatible software, you can equally choose your own and we'll support it. We're Freeagent Plantimum partners, Silver Xero partners and are expert in Quickbooks and Pandle.
