Very courteous and polite good service Thank you

After much promise, we are hugely disappointed in C&A.

Originally spoke with the contract manager and agreed the scaffolding plan and a price with him. Scaffolders turned up and did not follow the plan to what was agreed in any way, shape or form. When scaffolders arrived, we were told we required 2 beams in order to implement the job, so the price would be higher than the price originally agreed. They did apologise for this insight and admitted they should have notified us of this in advance. They told us every scaffold company would require to put beams. We agreed to the uplift in cost however the team had no beams on the vehicle so had to return the following day which meant we had to delay the scaffolders.

On the return visit, only 2 platforms were erected rather than 4 platforms. Additionally, the scaffolding did not span the entire width, and C&A claimed the work was complete and requested payment. Also told us it is not possible to span the scaffolding the entire width because gas meters were in the way. The scaffolding was left in an extremely perilous state, with no safe way to reach the levels properly. I received calls and WhatsApp messages from a Director and then another Director. Therefore, suddenly 3 different people to deal with and it soon became apparent these colleagues were not communicating with each other very well. At least, that’s what seemed to be the case. Either way, it made communication with myself increasingly confusing. The contract manager said the company will return soon and put the scaffolding right and complete the job as originally requested, with some tweaks. One of the Directors put it to me that our decorators must have a problem and are being difficult as they cannot understand why the decorators cannot use the scaffolding. Another Director informed me that C&A could only attend in 10 days to put it right as they were really busy. Prior to the scaffolding being erected unsafely, C&A were available almost instantly to attend and could not be more accommodating to find time.

The scaffolders did finally come back again and even though we had agreed to erect the missing platforms, and span the entire width, the scaffolders who arrived were clearly not willing to do this. The contract manager apologised profusely for not meeting on site beforehand to discuss the scaffolding erection and said it was his fault. However, when it came to speaking with the Directors, the blame was put on us for not being on site to guide the scaffolders (although we were on site on the original visit and they had a clear plan to follow). We lost time and money with the decorators we arranged to attend however when it became clear C&A could not deliver scaffolding that is fit for purpose, we were told that to remove the scaffolding would require half of the invoice to be paid.

We realised that it was impossible to progress the job and we were simply wasting time. A week after demanding payment and claiming the job is complete, one of the Directors advised that the scaffold is unsafe to use and not to use it. We finally agreed a compromise with C&A and accepted to pay a little under half of the initial invoice amount. We had no choice as we needed the scaffolding removed in order to enable another scaffolder to erect the scaffolding. Again, at another cost to our company.

All in all, this was a very stressful and costly ordeal, and we are only writing this review because we hope nobody has to endure the same experience because clients deserve much better than this experience with a relatively new company who do not appear to have the necessary expertise. We were made to feel that it was a complicated job and hard to implement (not possible to extend the entire width, you’ll require beams, etc). When a new scaffolding company arrived on site, they had a much larger vehicle with a company logo on display, with plenty of equipment loaded up so there was no need for any return visits. The scaffolders stated that everything we requested is obvious from the plan and can easily be done just as it’s marked out and looked puzzled at the suggestion of beams, which C&A claimed every company would need in order to erect our scaffolding. I got competitive quotes for the scaffolding and decided to go with C & A London scaffolding. As a small job I had to fit around their work schedule but this I consider was fine.

Both guys I dealt with were very polite and helpful. The scaffolding went up within a day of being requested and was removed soon after my exterior job was finished. I'd definitely use them again.
